Does anyone know where I can find a wolly mammoth model like in 3ds format or something? I have looked everywhere, even tried 3D Cafe and all the rest. I really need to find a model of this creature big time!

just an idea, you might have more luck with a common or garden elephant [african would be best]. with a few modifications in the tusk department and a nice fur coat you have yourself a wooly mamoth.

Gotta go with Relain. I don't think you will be able to find a wolly mammoth specifically. Shouldn't be too hard to modify an elephant mesh. Skinning one to look like a mammoth sounds like a bitch, though. It would be a good exercise in painting hair.

Are there plug-ins to make the mesh itself hairy? I took a quick romp through 3D Cafe and there is one for 3DS Max 3.x, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks guys. I had a look at that website and there wasnt much there, although I got some good Star Wars models!
I thought it would be the case of where I would have to probably have to modify an elephant model. Well I have one now so I will see how it goes.

Plugins for which program Warjournal? This particular wolly is being done in Maya, so the fur thing is already there.

Sorry I haven't been posting lots lately, but I just started my first full time job, and finding the time is a bitch...

Anyhoo...I'm looking for some animals too...a kangaroo, and a koala, and possibly an emu...got a project that me and a friend want to do with them...anyway...back to work!

Bloody Hell Im pissed off, Ive just spent an entire night searching for an elephant model. I CANNOT find one at all! The original model I had was in stupid .COB format. So I cant really open that up in Maya nor Max. Is there way to open it up in either one of these programs? If not then can someone tell me exactly where to find a model of a stupid elephant!? Dont say 3Dcafe, coz that is where I got the stupid .COB elephant.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Max comes with an elephant model. I got to thinking about it, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing one some where on the CD.

Okay, I just installed a bunch of stuff from the CD. I found two elephant skins in 3dsmax4\Maps\Characters, but I don't know where the model is.

Give Crossroads a whirl. It's a freeware model converter that can do COB files.

edit: I just gave Crossroads a quick try. It did the job on the elephant.cob file (to 3DS). Only minor clean-up on the mesh. Rotate, scale -- no big deal. However, the UVW mapping was lost. So if you go this route, watch out for that.

Sweet!!!! Thanks Warjournal. Thank God for that! I had to do the same rotate and scale stuff. Plus I did some meshsmoothing on it as well. Looks alright. Dan: I was kinda avoiding having to model it myself. I will play around with it in Maya. Plus I will look for a texture somewhere and enlargen parts for it to be a mammoth. Then cover it in Fur.
I experimented with saving as different formats and 3ds seems best. Keep an eye out for the opening film logo with the mammoth in it! Will be ages yet!
..................NOW!!! Anyone had any luck with those animals Skaarjj was asking about?

Glad it worked for you, Luxo. But I must admit that yesterday I was thinking the same thing as Dan. Two spheres, four cylinders... I can see it now.

A koala? Sounds like a good exercise for me with nurbs. Maybe in the next few days I'll give it a shot.

Know what you mean Warjournal...our Luxo is not too much of an officianado in MAX, but he's learning, slowly, but he's learning.
