How to do Hair, Clothes as in creating your own, I would like to see that! I will probably do one for animal fur.

I have been playing with poser for a bit now, (Playing with the animals.) I have done several posers of my wolves. You must have seen them by now. But definately how to make your own clothes and hair.

Thanks,
Wolfen.

tomeaglescz: There are different ways to approach this (and it depends on how you want to approach it in the end). You could go for a concise 'introduction to Poser' and just cover the basics (explaining the most commonly used controls and how they work) leading to producing a simple result at the end and then cover more complex things like hair, clothes, etc. in another tutorial. Or you could go for longer tutorial with a steeper learning curve which takes people through everything mentioned above to a more finished result.

I'd lean in favour of a basic Poser tutorial so that other ones, for varying levels of skill, could be hung off it - this more modular approach has worked nicely for the POV-Ray tutorials:
www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/3d.html

which build on and/or compliment each other but if you already know a bit of POV-Ray you could skip, say, Slime's basics tutorial.

In the redesigned tutorials section they can be assigned to more than one area so a Poser only tutorial and, e.g., a Poser to PS (which would then go in the 3D and PS sections) might make sense.

So things I'd be interested in seeing are:

The very basics
Importing new characters (I believe the very basic bodies are pretty limited)
Morphing
Hair
Clothes
Props
Backgrounds

Anyway I'll throw the link to this thread into the GN and see if anyone has any other good ideas.

[edit: and Wolfen that is a really nice sig - I've seen variants but that one with the cub is great. How much is that Poser and how much PS?]

Emps: 9/10s of my sig is poser, just their generic wolf and I postured it laying down. The little cub is actually a full grown wolf scaled down. Then I just did the posture in poser, both together in poser. All I used PS for was to fix the fur on their faces a little using the noise filter lightly (If you had seen the other variants that I did, you could tell where the figure's texture showed up a bit odd on the forehead,) the lettering and transparency. That is it. I am amazed what Poser can do now.

Wolfen: Cool - thats very impressive. I was under the impression that the defaults weren't great (hence commercial efforts like Michael [not 'the inmate formerly known as taxon'] and all the women) - just lucky the generic wolf is so good (there aren't any generic Emperors around but I may work on that!!).

As an aside I see a lot of talk about applying textures in Bryce but has anyone used the free UVMapper Classic?:

Emps: Actually I have the current Poser 4 and there has been some noticeable changes since three. The models have more detail to them, there are a lot more modifying options on the whole body, to even more detail props. The way you can tell is that the program can use both sets of models and they are labled p3 or p4. I like the Michael and the woman figures out there commercially, but I have seen where the figures have been modified into fantasy creatures and even comic book characters like batman and Spidey. I think poser would be a serious tool to keep an eye on, I am not kidding.

Wolfen: My word - my nosing around turned up some pages with a few superheroes (and their ilk) I even ran across a lot of naked Buffies (I thought Spike was bad with his robot Buffy but at least with a robot Buffy you can... urmmm... anyway its a funny way to get one's jollies - there are an awful lot of sites with skimpy underwear to dress up your favourite model. It seems like an awful lot of time wasted which could be spent meeting real women but I digress) but that is an impressive collection and they seem to be based on the basic models.

Thanks for the link - its certainly whet my appetite to see what tomeaglescz has got planned!!

[and I had a quick nose around and found some great Flash Gordon models (and an Impreial Throne Room) - joy!!: www.geocities.com/hasdrubal456/
That should be enough to get me playing ]

okies having looked at the demo package with its limitations i am going to break down the tutorial into the following steps.

1. setting a figure up...ie placing it, posing it, dressing it and how to morph the figure and its clothes.
this will include how to add clothes textures etc from other sources ie. the web

2. setting up a basic scene with lighting camera's etc.

3. importing your figure into the scene (trust me its easier to create the scenery etc then introduce ya figure)

4. rendering within poser.

thats it for the first tutorial.

tutorial number two will be about how to use non native 3d formats to poser ie max and lightwave files, and how to export ya poser stuff into the likes of max and lightwave and bryce to render there. as all the principles of tut #1 will apply

tutorial number three will go in depth into creating photorealistic textures for ya figures and applying them. by the way if ya use the templates that are widely availiable no mapping required!

just a quick thought for ya wolfen are you using a bump map for ya wolf? if not lemme know i can give ya a few ideas but i love the sig.

emps that should keep me busy for a while let me know if thats what ya had in mind

tom

tomeaglescz: That sounds good to me - I like the idea of keeping the first tutorial just focused on Poser and then looking at its integration with other software later. It appears to have everything paced well and I look forward to seeing what you produce there!!

Tomeaglescz: Didn't know that you knew poser? I would love to learn this as I have it of CA mag. I have used a bit, but only for a mess about and to see what it was like. I like what people can just do with it (like Wolfen and that image of the man, that cool) and I would love to learn it.

So please do a tutorial on this, I would read it in-side and out

DS Tutorial is on the way i am working on it now i am doing 2 kinda side by side one poser 4 and one poser4 pro version and have em both installed on two separate pc's as the pro version doesnt look much like standard once you start delving into it..

hopefully by the end of next week i should have the finished image up and ready for you guys to see what you will be making in the tut but trying to find a decent freebie model with a good texture template isnt that easy i have about 3-4 gigs worth of stuff that i got off a client that went tits up on me and gave me in lieu of payment..so i got lucky...

have a look throught the poser stuff in here and keep ya eye out...hehehe didnt think writing this tut would be so hard.... keep forgetting to get screen captures ?)
