Topic awaiting preservation: what software will transfer snanned images to cartoon characters (Page 1 of 1)

Hello,
I am not sure whether this is the right place to ask this question or not; or whether the product I am looking for exsists. However I have wanted to ask this question for a while and if I don't ask I won't find out!

Basically I have started messing around with web-design packages such as 'Dreamweaver4', 'Flash5', 'Fireworks4', 'Swish'. These are programs are brilliant for all different uses and combined can do a whole lot. However I am not good at drawing and I was wondering whether a program exists that could successfully take a photographed (scanned) image and produce and cartoon like characterization of the original image. A tall order but I feel there probably are software titles out there that can do it, is there?

I got this disc with a magazine the other day with a title called 'Morph Artist' by Sierra but this wasn't what I am looking for. If anyone knows of such morphing software that I am looking please get in touch.

well Illustrate 5 does this for 3D renderings but I don't know if there is something like this for photoshop. I would bet big money that someone has made something like what you want. Ask over in the photoshop forum, or at adobe's forum.

How does illustrator do this?

I've been looking for a way to make illustrator transfer raster into vector graphics, but all I can find is the gradient mesh feature.

I would be willing to say that there is nothing that exists that will through any process of auotomation achieve what you are looking for.

There are however, things called "artists" who do that type of thing quite well

Rrrrr. Flash has a "trace" feature to convert raster to vector, which works pretty well, but Illustrator has nothing of the sort. I find this quite annoying.

Adobe didn't put the trace functionality in Illustrator, they made a seperate app for it: Adobe Streamline

Oh, I get it. That way, they can charge another $130 for it.

Yep. And it doesn't even work that well
