We have done so.

thank you for your response...i've been lookin at it....and they say it's 2.5d and 3d...but most of the 3d stuff they do gets imported from the big 3d programs... i was just thinkin about gettin it cuz i'd like to dabble with 3d, but don't know where to begin, and thought that would be a good place...maybe not though.
thanx again

yeah that makes sense.

how's the learning curve on pov-ray?? free is good, so it's already got somethin goin for it...lol
if it's realitivly easy to pick up, then i'll give it a go, but if it's extreamly hard...then ugh, i won't bother i figure i'm of average intelligence...if that helps lol

as for 3dsm/cinema being "affordable"...you're nuts!! if you think they're affordable..do ya wanna get married?? lol only people with lots of money think 3dsm would be affordable

thanx so much for your time in responding to these questions

Actually, 2.5D does exist in the terminology of CGI.

2.5D is 2D data (X,Y) with a Z-axis coordinate added. A heightmap would be an example. It differs from 3D in that only one Z coordinate can exist for any given X,Y point. So you couldn't define a sphere, but you could define a dome.

Here's something I lifted from some lecture notes:
2.5D
- 2D mapping performed on a Cartesian (x, y) coordinate system
- 2.5D mapping uses x,y coordinates but adds a third coordinate (z) such as height to achieve the extra 1/2 dimension
- each point on the surface is defined by an X,Y and Z coordinate
- but, only a single Z value associated with each point
- nothing above or below - a floating surface
- sometimes referred to as 3D, but...
- true 3D uses volumetric (~solid) objects
- most common example is topography

As far as ZBrush goes, it's not quite 2.5D. It can place true 3D objects on 2D layers, and you can have multiple layers. So the placement of each object is 2.5D (or less, actually, since you can only define the Z-order, not the Z-coordinate), but each object can be full 3D. It can also do true 3D operations within a layer (i.e. rotate a 3D object). It's kinda weird.

Why not download the demo? It's fully functional.

wonderful! thank you guys very much!
the reason i haven't downloaded it is because i have a download limit, and i don't wanna waste it on stuff that i'm just checkin out and fiddlin with, unless i'm serious about wantin to learn it....

anyways, thanx again, you've cleared up the 2.5d thing for me
