phpBB is the best free forum by far, PHP and MySQL based and as per your requirement, easy to set up. I believe you just upload the files/directories, CHMOD one file and go to the URL in your browser for the board where it's all point and click from there to configure, even sets up your database for you (you'll have to know db name, hostname, password etc). Then you take ccare of some CHMOD and file deletion for security purposes then you're set to go. |

I Highly suggest you check out phpBB 2.x - I have been using phpBB since the 1.x days and have been using 2.x for about 7 months now. It's fast, easy to mod, has a wonderful support community and tons of great features. VERY easy to setup, one can easily go from nothing to working forum in 5 minutes no lie! |

I'd also vote Invision Board, it's better looking, and 90% of the time it uses fewer queries than phpBB or any of the other boards, paid or free ones, which in turn gives you faster page loading and better overall performance. |
