Topic awaiting preservation: which perl do i need

well im going to install an application. or better said: im going to compile it, cause its only available in sourcecode form.
so on the installation page it says i need perl, python and cygwin to compile it. i think i manage to install python and cygwin, but with perl im not sure.

on perl.org i only find sources too and a few binarys but i dont know which one is the correct?

It says on the site that it requires Perl 5.0, so any perl 5.x should work if the program isn't very strict on it. And since 5.8 is the newest stable release I would think that was the best one to install.

If you use Linux it shouldn't be a problem compiling and installing it. Just download the source and run the ordinary configure and make commands...

If you use windows I would think that the files needed could be found through these links, and it might be this directory that you end up in after following the links. But I've never installed perl on a windows computer before so I might be wrong...

If you're using cygwin you are probably doing this on a windows machine?

Get the newest Windows version of perl at Active State

ive been browsing that CPAN site already, but got confused with all that versions and ports.

bitdamaged: is activeperl a modification of a third party or just a compiled version?
