Topic awaiting preservation: Compiled PHP (Page 1 of 1)

It came up in a magazine I was reading recently where their answer to someonwriting is was that you couldn't compile PHP but you can:

I was just wondering what the advantages/uses were for this kind of thing (is the Zend one what the same as it appears to be to hide your code from clients)?

So anyone use this, play with it, etc.? I would have thought you'd be better off using C or Delphi but then again if you can work in PHP................

The only good thing about it that I can think of is that if you allready know PHP you don't need to learn a new language just to create some small program. And for simple task like moving and renaming files, listing directory contents PHP is almost as fast as Perl.

But for bigger tasks I would still prefere a language better suited for the task. PHP is after all a langauge made for sever-side processing of web pages, not to create andvanced binary files.
