It's in the works! I've recently claimed the domain name, and will also consider registering the OZONESdotCON.com website if the confusion gets too bad. F1_eror has been amazing on this one, this would not be happening if not for him, and I am getting pretty pumped up about this! Don't expect a lot off action before the first of the year, aside from creating the basic website, but do expect good things to come!

Thats http://www.ozonedotcon.com I'll try to post some pictures of the OzoneDotCon field I took this fall as soon as I can.
To update everyone else so far we have a very tentative schedule planned for each day so far. This will also be posted, as soon as we have more of the blanks filled in.

I can't take all the credit on this project myself. Phil, DL-44 and Wes have done loads to help out. Some days I just feel a little lost and these guy bring me back to earth, so to speak. And of course we cannot forget Doc, without him there would be no DotCon.

I for one am in awe of the amount of work that F1 has done, and Phil as well.

I will be happy to help out with the website in whatever way is needed -- I don't mind doing some boring html coding to get the info posted....let me know if my help will be needed.

If I bring my boss, can you make it look somehow business related. Maybe a staging area for a webcam so our bosses can look and watch us in serious meetings all day? Tape loop of course...

There will be some business related goings on, this won't be just one huge party. We plan on having 3 round table disscusions that will be related to what we all do.

Of course we will also have some fun activites that will enable us to blow off some steam, and get to share knowledge with one another. If you want to bring your boss, thats fine. I'm sure he / she would apporve. This is kind of biz and fun combined.

I wonder if I can write it off on tax ?
A business expense? I've still time to register a business. Hrmm. hehe =)

Wow, a tax write-off! That's brilliant! If you design professionally, I do believe this would be a legitimate business-related trip. Anyone know to the contrary?

I would think that this could be written off as a business expense, it is geared towards Web Designer / Developers. However just to be on the safe side I would check it out with you accountant, once we have a schedule that is 90%+ complete. But I don't think it will be a problem for those that are in the business.

F1, you have any preliminary ideas on the developer related goings-on? Last I heard it was pretty much a social which is cool, but I'm afraid that the way things are going right now for me, the only way I'll be able to come is if it's business related. I'll be changing jobs more than likely in February and losing my massive vacation time stash but my new boss is all about learning stuff. So if you could throw out a bone for me to chew on...

We will be having at least three round table discussions (one per day so far). The subjects will be on the state of the industry, dealing with difficult clients, Digital Video, and Doc talking about ozone.com and the Asylum and how he see things. We may also spend some time talking about the history of the internet as it relates to design.

I also expect that folks will be talking and sharing ideas about design / development during our "unstructured" times. The way I'm looking at this is that it will be a Conference, but not like those dull-assed Thunder Lizard conferences. Every conference I've been to, I've gotten more knowledge after hours talking with others. Thats also where you get some of your strongest industry ties. It's pretty damn hard to connect with someone standing at a podium going over the latest uses of old tech. I'll try to put this in better words for folks like your new boss to read on the DotCon website. But this (I'm hoping) will help you to become a better and more well connected Web Designer / Developer. There will be socialzing going on, since that is the main strength of the DotCon.

when I make my first million (more likely scenario: someone gives me a million) I shall buy a fooz-ball table.

F1, who's the big dreamhost person? I've seen them around these parts and I don't remember where but it seems recurring and their hosting the dotcon so I figgered it might be you. Can you recommend them? They look cheap and barebonesy enough but are they buggy at all? Anybody? Feel free to email me if you don't think this is the place. thanks

jk: i think it's doc that has the hardon for dreamhost, i seem to recall all those little buttons of doc's other sites.

i myself use dreamhost and i've forced clients of mine to switch to dreamhost as well because i like them so much.

Actually Doc is the Dreamhost Guru around here. But I am looking at the Strictly Business package myself for and online store. (Actually my wife and sister-in-laws). After hunting around, I think Dreamhost will be best for my needs.

I do plan on having my very own domain some day. And I think for that Dreamhost will also be the way I go. The Dreamhost guys are geeks, and I'd rather have geeks host me, than suits. Geeks usually know whats going on. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I agree with F1. Although the con will be pretty social, I really can't see someone going five minutes (awake) without learning something design related. I really really look forward to learning a lot from those around me and taking away a good deal of inspiration. Oh, and drinking a variety of beer.

Regarding the "round tables," there may not be a recording, but I do envision a conch. Perhaps a Nerf conch. I do love Lord of the Flies...

Yes, Dreamhost *does* make me feel extra good, kinda like climbing rope in gym class, ya know? Seriously, dealing with these guys is kind of like how dealing with VISI was back in it's youth, the geeks on support really know what they're talking about, fix things right, and don't screw you on the little things. I put Malin's domain there first, and it went so well I registered two there myself, now three more, and then 3 more client domains. Once it seemed I might have paid for something I shouldn't have? I get a mail back an hour later, agreeing with me, the charge is "poof!" gone. (Phew! Uh uh, oh baby! :-) Mention my name, I get a referal bonus! (Malin's already got lifetime hosting for free, being upstream from me, hah!)

The round tables should be fun, hopefully we can get a bit of controversy too! Recording and redistribution? Personally, I don't care if we record or not, I won't listen to it probably, I *hate* hearing my recorded voice, yuck! Maybe some extremely detail oriented geek will make a transcript from it, maybe it will be posted onto the website to make the sponsors happy? Why not? Can't hurt, might help.
