The code has rocketed along mainly because TP has done it all and I've tried to pick up a few bits (mainly related to the provisional HTML skeleton) but on the design front (layout, logo, title) things have gone off the boil. We have lots of great input (although lets see some more) but we could do with someone with a good eye (or two) for these things to filter the various designs and give this a little direction.

I know everyone is busy but I think everyone respects the abilities of people like the Doc, DG, Weadah, etc. in this field. At this stage it shouldn't eat too much time so would one of them (or someone else) fancy taking over overseeing this aspect to keep things moving?

At last is the design ball going to roll again or is it not?

Anyway what does need to be done and decided on. There's logo, layout, and what else?. I know them two parts are big and need care and attention to them, but is there any think else need in the design area?

Also could we break it down into parts and what needs to be considered in the design. know the layout contains parts like colours, buttons, images ect. But there is always a technical side to it as well, like what is the do?s, don?ts and cant?s with the design. What I mean by this is that we can?t just design any think because it might not work right with the code. So could we address the problems and needs in the design first before any really design work goes on. I know TP has do a lot of code, that?s because there was a brief for it and a lot of help and ideas for what should be and not should be in the code. The design part has not had this but a lot of idea thrown in and then that?s it, it stopped.

So what do you think?

DS: Good points. I think stuff like icons, buttons, corners, etc. will flow from the design that has been decided upon. Although you are right that there need to be some constraints on the design (or there will be tears of blood shed when we try and convert it to HTML) I think all the designs so far have been pretty practical (around 4 or 5 panels, a top bar with logo/title and some of the general controls, etc.) and so I don't see much point in trying to constrain people's ideas at this stage (although if someone takes up the challenge of steering the design and they decide to set limits then that is cool). I'd quite like to see some outlandish designs thrown into the mix - pushing the envelope might just inspire a more sensible creation that wouldn't be thought of before.

Its also worth keeping in mind that the layout design is (at least partially) independent of the colour scheme so people might want to have a thought about the colours we mght want (and pos. do their designs in different colours - if its not too much work).

It should be worth clarifying that steering the design need not involve the tricky task of converting the chosen idea(s) to HTML - that is another step that we will deal with when the time comes (we'll probably need to call on DHTML experts at that time to so be prepared!!).

OK, thanks to TP, the code is up and running at PSPong (although not public clearly) and being tested but boy does it look ugly at the moment!! What we really need is someone with a good eye to start making decisions on what looks good and the direction the graphic design (logo, title and page design) should be heading in. The Doc is around and I think we'd love to have his input on this. Please help if only for the sake of my eyesight (which, let be honest, was never very good to start with - for whatever reason, mainly reading the small print).

Wanted: An inmate with good graphic design skills and a well respected 'eye' (so we can avoid controversy!!). Must have GSOH and like/tolerate lunatics. Smoking optional. Please apply below.

Well Weadah unless I've completely lost my mind (~takes a sneaky peak at medical report~ not completely it says which is good enough for me) you fulfill all the requirements (and some - enough to bake a largish pie).

Basically the graphics design side of the project needs an experienced hand to guide it so use your judgment and start drawing together elements that you like from the ideas for logos, titles and the web page - it should light a fire under proceedings again and get things moving in the right direction (so basically stuff like - 'I like the direction this is going in', 'lets see more of this', etc.). Hopefully that was specific enough to act as a some kind of guide and vague enough so that you have full discretion. Hopefully it shouldn't take up too much of your time and perhaps the Doc will pass on some thoughts if we are heading in the right direction.

So does this mean the design ball rolling again?

Anyway as I start the first layouts and got the ball rolling at first place, I can only continue to help all the way though this little....er...Big project if help is need, so I?m in for the designing parts. Not sure if I'm up for a full time job, yet I have a good eye..eyes I mean and can do the rest you said Emp, but not smoke, unless it's need thought stress .

Plus if I work hard do I get extra pills weekly?

Weadah: I've made you an 'official' paper pirate's hat with a big skull and cross bones and "Cap'n Weadz" written on it.

DS: As no-one has objected (and seems likely to) Weadah is now in charge of the graphic design so its his call (he can work you like scurvy dogs or order extra rations of pills - I hear one of the nurses look favourably on him so access to pills shouldn't be a problem!!). My suggestion would be to fire up PS and see what ideas you can come up with to get the various relevant forums moving again (as things have rather gone of the boil there).
