Actually, this is the first time it's looked cool like that. Sort of looks like snow around the edges.

thanks silence, i ran out of time for adding that mat colour to it so i just cropped the jpeg from here and then converted it to a gif and selected white as bg but it didnt turn out right, and lost way too much detail on the conversion...

I took a stab at it...

The first thing I did was to have a look at the red, green and blue channels. the 'blue' one was the blackest, so I duplicated that one. I inversed it (the deal is to make a selection for a mask to give the layer transparency) so that the parts which should remain visible were white in the channel, then I painted all the center white (as it should be completely visible) and loaded the selection from the channel. I used the selection for a mask on the original image. then, I gave the layer an inner glow (the layer effect) in black, to get rid of the remains of the white background.

after the transparency was fixed, I downsized it, and exported it in a 256-color gif.
