this is what it was supposed to come out like...but this one isn't transparent....
needless to say...this is my first try at this stuff... and don't know what's happening or why (though i'm fairly certain it's my fault ).......and Emperor just seconded that

Lacuna - I assume you have the background layer on while you're making the graphic...and then turn it off in order to save it transparent, right?

Well, the problem is that some of the pixels in that blurred mass are partially transparent....and when you turn the background off, they are transparent over...nothing, as opposed to a dark color.

Possible solution: get the basic shape of the blurred part, feather the selection, fill with the bg color on a layer above the background.

Well, no, most of those are actually true.

It's the stuff people whipser behind my back that are lies

That was my first big problem with the save for web thing....made me really miss the export > gif option =(

So now I always make a copy of my base shape filled with the background color as a base, in case I end up with semi-transparent pixels in the PSD.

Soft edges make it more complicated, but blurs/feathers should do the trick =)
