Heh. New forum home, new domain, is everything happy? You may have to refresh your cookies, stop by the "preferences" section and update yourself, (no changes necessary!) Hopefully this will all go smoothly, I'm expecting some minor flukes with permissions, etc..., and possibly some garbled files along the way. Drop me an email if your user account got hosed, OK?

Yah, I'm kind of agreeing with you, I intend to redo it, but for now, it's good to have an easy way to know which forum is which. Hey, wanna break something? Try clicking on that ugly logo to get back to the front door, that oughta do it, heh.

Woah...that's weird...there's no Ozones or Photshop Forums.

[edit]Oh yeah..and Doc...you are gonna have to change the link to the aylum on the banner for the location of the old asylum. It still says that it is at ]http://www.ozones.com/forum[/edit]

OK, the links that exist should all be changed over now, and when I dismantle the old forum I'll replace things with a redirect to this place. I *did* shuffle the order around a bit, I wanted 5 forums in each area, and I've been making a point to order them by the number of posts, I'll have to see about making that automatic, maybe. Where *was* the Padded Cell before? Seems that darn thing keeps moving around, better hope you're not locked inside when it shuffles again, we might lose it! (And you! =)

I like the new move. Things seem to work very well for me (NS4.7). No problems here yet, and I've been playing all day long.

I gotta agree with mikey, that Asylum logo just doesn't fit. I was playing (pencil & paper) with an Asylum logo thingy for a secret OzoneDotCon project. I was trying to make it match the Ozone logo a little. This one only seems to have to many of the overlaps of the old. If I can free up sometime I'll scan my sketches and upload 'em. I'm playing catch up right now, after I had to take a week+ off.

VP, you working for the UAW now or what?

Cool.

I think I liked the old picture of the word "asylum", that you had when you originally showed us the new forum on your own computer. Maybe that old one, but made smaller? It was kinda big. I don't like the dark lines across it, anyway.

Hmm, can't say I've noticed that "my comments aren't there yet" thing, but I WAIT UNTIL IT JUMPS ME! Hrmph, impatient kids! In MY day we had to wait around on the street corner for days, snow up to our asses, just waiting for our post to show up! And if it didn't show up, well guess what? We waited some more! Yeah, that's the ticket, grumble... (kids!) We didn't get the fancy-shmancy form boxes either, no! We had to hand input our posts, using a series of toggle switches, see? We didn't even use this high-falutin 8bit encoding either, we were too poor! We used 7bit encoding because we couldn't afford that last bit! AND WE LIKED IT! Hrmph.

Yep, looks like that's exactly what's happened. Some differences in the servers, both hardware and software. The last server was running Solaris, on Sun hardware, I can only assume it was faster on basic things such as writing to disk. BUT! I had limits to just how much processor time I got, commands happened quickly, but some of the processes were throttled down to allow other users to get a little CPU, heh. The new server is running on Denebian Linux, on an Intel platform. No throttling on this one, I get the full processor as I need it, but! Looks like the disk access time is not as swift, so we lose things when we jump too fast. Solution? None that I can think of off-hand, other than to pack my bags and go look for another server. One of my possible plans for the OzoneDotCon was to make one of our projects the building of our new home server, see how many good bits of hardware we can cobble together into the killer forum server. (I'm thinking ultra high-speed SCSI2, super fast drives, etc, etc...) Then I could shop around for place to co-locate that server.

For now? We better learn to live with it, this is the best place I could find for housing this CPU-sucking beast. Next year I'll vow to become really really rich and buy us a nice Sun Enterprise 450 with quad CPUs and 4 GIGs of RAM, with a nice RAID array. You have my word!

(What I *really* want for christmas is http://www.sun.com/servers/highend/10000/ - you too?)

Actually, I'd prefer to max it out with processors, when I did that I ended up with the $3,100,000 configuration, heh. (I would have usually refered to that machine as a "Starfire", they change the name or what?) This is such a cool machine, if you want to start a new site, you don't share a directory, you carve out a series of processors and create a "virtual machine", existing on the same power supply, but completely separate otherwise. I've run some tests with one of those machines they have out here in Sweden, we leased time on it to simulate a multi-processor, multi-homed series of webservers, seeing how the high-availability process worked. What would happen if the server you were using in the UK crashed in mid process, would the server in the States really pick right up where it left off, or would the whole site implode? Too cool.

It's way bigger than a refrigerator, however. And, not enough "blinky lights", they should offer them as an add-on package!

If you want doc...you could get someone to solder up a flashing LED circuit for you, and you could drill lots of little holes in the case, stick the LEDs through, and connect the circuit up to one of the machine's 9V power ouputs from the power supply.

I don't know if this is related to switching servers but lately when I post, I get autodirected to the Ozones Asylum page, ya know the one with all of the forums. It used to take me into that post so you could see what you did. Anyone else having this problem still?
