The customisation of the forum will need close interaction between the various groups so I think it requires its own thread for now.

Graphics/layout: Think about the buttons/graphics and the colours that will be needed.

Content: Think of the various forums that will be needed.

Coding: Standby to see if any of the code needs changing to make the customisation fuller.

Ok, here I have been doing some thinking...for some reason, I keep thinking of Halls...(maybe I'm just a romantiker from heart...the Halls of Justice...hehe).

And for some reason, I keep thinking of the English system, with the Magisters, the Halls of the commons, the Halls of Lords, etc...don't know why...

So there could be a 'General Assembly Hall' (if you like), an open to registered members of all sorts...to discuss...well, ripping, etc.

And then, maybe, a Hall for actual reporting...or defending ('Hey, I didn't rip that...honest') also available to all members...

And then a 'private' area, where moderators can discuss things in private, away from the 'public' eye...for example, 'Is this a rip?' or 'Has anyone contacted so and so on this?' maybe the Halls of Inquery...

As for the mods...well, I've never been for post count really...so I like to keep it simple...I kinda like the name 'Magister' for mods...and for other memebers, Initiates?

Just some ideas...any others?

oy, phpBB is a beast to customize. That's a job in itself.

I agree that post count shouldn't matter, especially when the forum's main use is for discussing rips.

WS: I'm not feeling it. We are aiming for a clean, professional look and feel and those names seem a little 'overblown' for the feeling that we are trying to give (I also think we should avoid giving the impression of being too judgemental or more literally that we are sitting in judgment). I think we should aim for names that say what they mean, are simple and clear as to what their purpose is and don't givbe the wrong kind of impression.

The aim is to provide information and support for people who have had their content stolen and going for a naming convention like that would certainly give the impression that we are some kind of court handing out judgements on people.

So I would suggest such dull forum titles as:

Copyright issues - discuss the problems of copyright and what constitutes content theft and what doesn't
Report a rip - if you have had content stolen then call in here and we'll give you advice and help on how to deal with this
ETC.

Sticking to the facts...that's good. In fact, it is essential. Thanks Emps...right now I'm chewing through BeeKay's stuff...I'll get back to this after that...I think I'll then have a better idea of the forum, and topics then...

WS: We are trying to avoid some of the problems that happened here with previous 'rips' and while the colour scheme and layout will contribute to the atmosphere the naming conventions we use and the way things are written will be critical. I agree that it is best to see how things emerge once you and Beekay have sorted out the content

I was able to find the right place. I have created a first test, called "ZOXtext", but I am still just playing around with it (you can see it by changing your preferences)
I looked and looked, but nowhere were I able to find where you can change the logo for the forum, so instead I just went ahead and put a RR logo on the server with the same name as the old one. (the old one is still on the server, I just renamed it logo_phpBB_orig.gif)
Just in case you are wondering what the RR logo is doing there, looking mismatched with the default forum style

I changed the default style to be ZOX's style as well as overroad user defaults. There is really IMO no need to allow the users to override the style we determine. It is a nice feature but far better to force a consistancy.

If you don't agree far be it from me to say not to reenable letting the user's decide.

WarMage: That makes sense (offering any other styles would be a bad idea) I was wondering about doing something similar myself

ZOX: That colour scheme looks great (although it does make the graphics look poor ) my only thought is that we should make that background colour darker (either a just off black or black itself) to really draw in eye into the middle of the screen? I also wonder why that Test Category 1 looks slightly shortened on the right? The hover colour could do with attention but that will be our next aim.

I suspect we will need to identify the buttons and get into files and change them for ours unless someone knows any easier way of doing it?

The straight sides of that header graphic work really well with the boxy design.

I had to change the style back. It appears that when ZOX implemented his changes something goofed with the submit buttons and input and textareas. You can't read the text on them.

I couldn't figure out a fix to this problem, so I changed it back. If I get some more time I will muck around the documentation to figure this out.

Yeah, I was just messing around with it. It is far from a finished template.

The color for the submit buttons and text areas might be controlled in the css file, I'm not sure.
I don't have time to look at it now, as I am on the way to a July 4th family gettogether.

OK we have had a bit of a change in direction on the colour emphasis so do we need to play with the forum colours. I think ZOX has this firmly in hand so this can wait until he has finished playing with the design.

Do we need custom graphics for the forum?

emps now the colour scheme has been finalised for the main site maybe at least just the colours should match in the forum.

Have we got a working model yet?

A problem occured with the skinning - I would suggest we turn the default back to ZOX's and then try and track down where the problem is sneaking in with the buttons.

I think we should also discuss the sections that we are going to want? I have spoken to WS about this and started a couple of forums with a few ideas thrown in. I was thinking of the following:

Welcome
Announcements
Gneral discussion - introduce yourself, ask a question, etc.

Help
Help I've been ripped.
?Other stuff?

Prevention
Ideas for prevention - things that help, things that don't (don't use the no right click script).
Copyright and other precautions.

Work
Public one to suggest ideas for sections, tools, etc.
Private one to discuss other aspects.

Any other ideas and thoughts?

If that outline seems OK for provisional sketching out the shape do you fancy sorting that out? Its sort of a content thing You can rename the couple of blank test forums too.

Once we have the design sorted and the forum skinning I think we can move the discussion over to the RR public work forum no?

phpbb2 made a pretty substancial security related update last week.
I'd suggest you guys look into that, and implement it, prior to proceeding with any tweeks and adjustments.

Get with Jason if you run into any snags.... I believe he was re-vamping one shortly after the update was released.

Upgrading the forum is probabally not a bad idea. Normally minor updates are good to go along with, it is those major updates you would need to worry about. The update is prolly a good idea right now since we are still in development phases and wouldn't have to worry about loosing 100,000 worthwhile posts.

I am really sorry for my laxness of jumping in here. If you have any pertenent question please send me a Q since that is really the only way I am able to get around to being responsive. If you need anything from me it will have to be on the weekends, since my work week is just crushing me into the ground.

Notice that my post count is now prolly 2k, and it has been 1999 for about a week now since I couldn't get around to actually posting...

So just message me and I will get back to you.

OK a quick update - Michael has skinned the forum (or made the first version - we can always tweak things) and he updated the code while he was at it (as it might have interfered with his skinning). So that has come along nicely. I'd quite like ZOX to have a look at it and see if it fits in with the general colour scheme and if not what need tweaking.
