I got this :

HTTP/1.0 200 OK Via: 1.1 DEWHVPXY002 Connection: close Content-Type: text/html Date: Tue, 01 Oct 2002 14:32:53 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a mod_ssl/2.8.10 OpenSSL/0.9.6c PHP/4.2.2

as I was looking at the members area...it was above the Asylum logo. WTF??!!??

Anybody know what that is?

that's part of the page headers...determines server type and lots of other stuff. It isn't supposed to display normally since it sits in the head and not the body.

Yeah, so why did it display? That sure blew my mind...

BTW - thanks for the reply.

It was probably some glitch with web server that's hosting Asylum...

And the pop-up wasn't caused by me.

Well, today at work...no pop-ups...they are gone, apparently. And I did absolutely nothing to the computer at work.

I'm very, very suspicious, now....the 'pop-ups' can't just have 'started', and now 'ended', all of a sudden. Strange, that the pop-ups seem to be gone, now that we have found out that they were happening here...I mean, doesn't that sound...strange?

Is InSiDeR still using Hypermarkt for his sigs here? Maybe there is indeed a connection....

There is no connection. Links to images can't possibly create code that appears *before the HTTP header*. In fact, they can't create code that appears *anywhere* on the page, especially since HTML is turned off. I guarantee you this is caused by something outside of the Asylum.

Slime: What about linking to a CGI script that delivers a random image?

The CGI script can only return some data to the browser. The browser will try to interpret that data as an image. If it's unable to interpret it as an image, it will simple ignore the data and place a red X in place of the image. This data returned from the script can't do *anything* but be displayed as an image, unless the browser is written to allow it to do otherwise. No browsers that I know of are written like that (it would be an obvious security hole that the programmers would have to create on purpose). It's not something that could accidentally happen in the browser. (That would be like, "whoops, i was expecting a jpeg image, but you instead sent me HTML code which I executed... even though I was expecting an image.") If the script returned HTML, it would be ignored by the browser.

Note that this happens separately from the loading of the original page, much as the downloading of an image is separate from the loading of the page that contains it.

Yes, I understand...but then, why are the pop-ups gone?

Case in point...if something isn't changed (i.e. my browser, and proxy settings at work), then it makes no sense why the pop-ups have suddenly disappeared (though I am grateful for it). Also, they disappeared right after we started discussing it...

*shrugs*

Oh well...just glad the damned things are gone...

It's a possibility that there was something between the Asylum and your computer that was doing it. (Like a proxy.) I'm not sure how likely this is, though.

There weren't even any sigs (posts by InSiDeR) in the post WS sent InI the code for:
http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum1/HTML/005571.html

if it was something in between some inmates then why them and not others?

Oh well if its gone then thats the important thing.

Yeah...what a relief. Still, it bugs me that soemthing like that was happening here, and now it's gone...I get the feeling, kinda like we were had...we know it happened, but don't know why or how.

Can't shake the feeling that somebody, somewhere, is laughing...
