First, we aren't building a linux server to run the Asylum on or anything like that. We're going to be building a Linux OS to run on our own computerse as either a primary or secondary OS. Second, a different partition with Linux is needed to build this. So everyones going to need at least 2 partitions, one with the original distro (mines RH 8.0) and then a second which we're going to install the LFS to. If anyone doesn't have a linux distro check the FAQs. I've listed plenty of popular distros that you can download for free. At this point everyone should have the LFS book. If not it can be downloaded from linuxfromscratch.org or check the FAQs for more documentation. As of now, everyone should have or be in the process of reading up to chapter 3 in the manual. Also, everyone should have a linux distro installed and a partition for the LFS. Starting on chapter three everyone should be downloading the different packages.
