As you can see from a few posts here we have had a bit of a problem with Chinese sapmming of the forum and I picked these up as giving big traffic into here and it appears to be the home of the spammers:
www.windstudio.net/bbs/dispbbs.asp?boardID=7&ID=14998
www.blueidea.com/bbs/NewsDetail.asp?id=978135

I know we have a few Chinese speaking inmates here - would it be possible to enlighten us on the proceedings (I have already dropped Suho1004 a line on this although he is pretty busy as the moment).

I managed to get a partial transaltion from bable fish:
http://world.altavista.com

on this URL:
www.blueidea.com/bbs/NewsDetail.asp?id=978135

there they seem to be asking why loading was posting in this forum where we wouldn't understand what it was all about. Not that it all makes sense but there are some good weird translation bits like:

quote:
Loading is extends the head meets the precast block - courts death

from "Illusory image cat cat"

and:

quote:
He said what we are " the erythrophobia "
By me is approved the dog stranguria with hematuria head

from "Zhao huge mythical bird"

Anyway Its always interesting to see my scribblings translated into Chinese

Oh and babelfish got a translation on the thread posted in the PS forum and it seemed to only hold lots of people saying how great China was (thats nice - I wanted to visit before the impromptu tourist information announcement) except for this little pearl of poor translating:

quote:
The feudal official does not have the grandmother, does not have down to today.

I wonder if I'm the feudal official? And they were right I don't have a grandmother anymore

Ahhhhhhh well these automatic translations are better han nothing.

Alo Suho1004 had a quick look at the other two and said:

quote:
the first one has something to do with "the people of china" and something that is unavoidable (or necessary, etc.), but i'd need to look some characters up to decipher the whole thing. the second post title says "lifestyle, impression, and (not sure about this: maybe "random thoughts"?)"

Hes busy and will return to this during the week.

Rice wine is also quite common in China and Korea.

In any event, they sounds like a bunch of spoilt 13 year old northeners with nothing better to do. I did a couple of translations myself yesterday and forwarded some stuff to one of my ex's who's half chinese and she couldn't make much sense of it either.

It just seems like your typcal case of insecure net kids posting trash in the hope for some attention. I wouldn't bother paying any attention to it.

I agree with Drac's assessment all around. Things seem to have died down anyway...

And yes, rice wine is quite common in Korea. In fact, it was so common that I had to drink about three bottles of it after giving my presentation at the Society of Korean Oral Literature. Strangely enough, I don't seem to have made much of a dent in the overall amount. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Nope, I don't understand a word of chinese. babelfish doesn't really either, but it made more sense out of it than I would have.

ECLE: A couple of points:

1. This is an English language forum so try and ask questions and stuff in English. It wouldn't be too much of a big thing but we have had a couple of Chinese forums spamming us recently (the reason for this thread) so we are a little jumpy

2. To answer your question Suho1004 is doing his studies in translating Korean and knows some Chinese (and Japanese) - we (well me anyway) tend to rely on him for insight into various things (he was good enough to help the GN sin up to amazon.co.jp for example). Apologies to Suho for answering his question

ECLE: No need to apologise - it wasn't you causing trouble (and it wasn't very much trouble its just if people post in an English language forum in something like Chinese we would struggle to know what was going on).

Anyway there are other Chinese inmates and we are always interested in the different perspectives people bring to field as a large proportion of us are from North America or Western/Central/Northern Europe

Sorry folks, I've been a tad busy lately, and I haven't been checking up on the Asylum as often as I normally would.

To clarify what Emps said: I'm studying for my Ph.D. in classical Korean literature (translating is what I do to put the rice on the table), which is why I can read some Chinese (modern Korean literature doesn't really rely on written Chinese). However, mainland Chinese use abbreviated characters, while Koreans use the "full" versions, so some characters tend to throw me off.

At any rate, I'm not as nearly proficient in Chinese as I am in Korean or English, and neither are most of the inmates here. So, ECLE, while we do appreciate your excitement, I'm sure everyone would be happier if you stuck with English, at least while you're here.

Thanks.
