who here archives old threads? I've done quite a bit of archiving for Doc several years ago. Is there a schedule or rotation or anything? I'd be glad to help again as I have some spare time on my hands these days... |

I did some today and tend to do it when I spot old threads in the FAQ, etc. |

I'd be happy to archive some of the old Ozone "furum" threads... |

is there anyway to perform a batch archive instead of one page at a time? |

personally, I believe if a rtfm thread has been around for a couple of months, and the question has been answered, it's not worth archiving. |

In order to indicate the guilty: I have deleted rtfm threads when on an archiving spree. |

...I think Doc is itchy about deleting 'current', 'recent', and 'important' threads.... if you're archiving the last page in the OZONE forum and you run across junk threads, go ahead and delete them... |

I once cut down the main forum, to 4 pages...from...I don't know how many...lots (it took me over 6 weeks). It builds up...I just don't have much time, to do such anymore...I'm terribly busy with the new job. |

As I said - don't worry about archiving, the grail will make it easier, though you'll have to assign keywords to anything that actually is archived. (everything else will be moved to 'the sink' - there to rot till all eternity.). |

Yeah InI, it's a ton of work, especially if one takes the time to actually read each thread...and the posts to it...to decide if it is worth archiving or not! Just getting a page a day done can be tough...I think I was doing like 4 pages a day...that meant coming home from work, and doing nothing else but archiving/deleting until crawling into bed... |

the grail doesn't assign a value - you do. If you add a keyword to a thread, it's automatically moved to the appropriate archive when it's gotten to a certain age (without any new posts). If you don't add a keyword, it get's moved to the sink - where you can still add a keyword (which then get's it moved to the appropriate archive as well when the next nightly cleanup happens). Of course this is one bit more work than simply archiving something - you'll need to think up one or more keywords - but then, the actuall process for you is faster, since you don't have to choose every time again where to archive it to. And if you can't think of an appropriate keyword - it's probably not worth saving. |
