UBB Help
Well, I hate archiving threads and seeing pictures broken later when the author has moved his data, or changed domain. I also hate the fact that archived threads don't leave a "Ghost" trace, and therefore, a search on the forums is quite painful to perform once a thread has been moved to the vault... It just happened to me with the "1500 pixels" thread by Weadah: thank God the Faq saved the juice in that thread, the Faq and some wiser mods, but the thread itself, now in the hall of fame archives, is a pathetic skeleton. I used to take an hour a week to try and archive threads in the coding forums: it sounds so useless now... and the Grail is comming, hopefully with some coding magic to solve these problems. Plus one thing: I tend to "need" only a few posts here and there to quickly assimilate new info. At first, most of the information in the coding forums sounded "irrelevant" to me, I'd had wiped out most of the stuff there as it sounded... obvious. Doc gave me a pat on the head, and turned on the "quiet" mode. Pompous me, but this is just honesty: I now am maybe slightly wiser, but the "delete topic" button still tickles me: the wheel is reinvented so often, and the rollovers, rediscovered on a monthly basis there. So sorry, but unless it really is badly needed, I'll just wait for the new forum to get live as far as dhtml is concerned. Server side scripting is full of handy tips, though, so I'll do my best to filter it... And last but not least: my weekly schedule, lately, rarely goes below 70 busy hours a week, and this is unlikely to change before summer... or later.
