I feel that "adult" (my mother or the librarian at the university or some stupid chinese(?) students) people believe I am doing nothing while I am playing a video game. It's not true!
Listen, I don't mean to be rude, but the truth is your english needs a *lot* of work. It's hard to take you seriously because you sound very much like a child. I don't mean to insult you, but if you want to communicate effectively, you need to improve your english.
Also, you are doing hardly anything but starting new topics, as far as I can tell. You don't contribute much to conversations, but you do bring up topics. However, since we don't know anything about you (both because you never say anything about yourself and because you're very difficult to understand), the topics you bring up don't give us any reason to reply. They are just annoying.
If you want our respect, then you need to improve your english and figure out what you really want here.

Well for one thing they don't understand. When some adults were kids they knew nothing but work. My father had a shoe shine thing going when he was 6. My son who is almost 5 knows nothing about picking up after hiself, only about how to play StarWars video games on the Xbox. My self, I understand both sides. I grew up with chores and video games. I had an Atari 2600 when I was young, but was mowing the lawn when I was big enough to push the thing. I got a nintendo once and learned how to split wood for the fire. So I guess in the spirit of old sayings I'll say this: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All play and no work makes Jack flat broke.
The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made. --Groucho Marx

There's nothing you can ever do to convince anyone of any intelligence that video games are essential, because they are not.
Anyone who feels video games are in any way "essential" needs a life.

Challenge them to a round of Quake3 or Unreal Tournament.... lots of us old farts are gamers. Some of us were playing video games in the arcades before you were even an idea.
Believe it or not, we were playing computer games(and RPG),listening to music, and even getting laid, way back in the day. And a fair few of us still are....
You see the problem with some people isn't that they are old, it is that they just aren't with it.... and never were. And there isn't much you can do about that.

Well, to start with: video games aren't essential to todays teen. I'm trying, but failing, to see where you're coming from on this. Videogames are, for the most part, fairly mindless superfluity. Even when a game requires you to stretch your mind a bit, you usually don't gain much.
They aren't essential, in fact, they're probably a detriment to todays teen.
That said: those "adults" are probably true. You are doing nothing when you're playing video games (in general). What have you gained by sending the grotesquely awesome demon-lord in Icewind Dale back to some other realm? Or finishing Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or mugging grandmas in GTAIII?
This time you spend playing videogames could be put to better use: as has been pointed out, you might work on improving your English. Or for me, I've decided to forfeit killing demons - for a while - and learn C++.
But that doesn't negate the fact that video games are fun. Well, damn right, they're fun. That's why people play them. But that doesn't mean that what's fun is always beneficial.

In my day... we didnt have these fancy things you call video games, we worked in the fields from sunrise to sunset, and were forced to respect our elders{aka Mother, Librarians and students who could spell}.
And we liked it !!!
We walked to school uphill both ways through seven feet of snow, and considered ourselves LUCKY!
Shut-up ya little brat! Turn off the damn video game, and go to fucking class. DAMMIT!

What's this negative vibe going around?
I think a lot of you would be suprised if you saw how much one's archaic vocabulary expands when playing Diablo or Warcraft. Even Starcraft touches up on your military strategy and vocab. Video Games are product of mental stimulation. The problem is not with Video Games turning people into vegetables, it's people turning people into vegetables by using Video Games.
It's like a parent blaming Alchohol for their child driving drunk and getting in an accident, not their child's poor decision. Don't bash Video Games for the moronic decision of letting them consume someone's life.

Your archaic vocabulary expanding when playing Diablo? If I remember correctly, Diablo had little to no dialouge to begin with. Even Diablo II. And, I'm really trying to see how Starcraft touches up my "military strategy and vocab:"
General: Oh no, the commies invaded the eastern shore of the island!
Everyone panics.
General: No, wait!
General types in "operations cwal"
General: That's it! Lets storm them with Hydralisks! Forget the losses, those bastards are deadly.
Now, I could see hex based war games improving ones "military strategy," but not starcraft. But, in any case, that doesn't negate the fact that Starcraft, and Diablo, are fun, which means I won't stop playing them.

Now RSI is claiming it's part in the game.

*scratches and shakes head* Why can I see this turning into a flaming row before too long? I mean, c'mon, do you realy want to give the troll who originated this thread his jollies by arguing over what he wants you to argue over? That's just plain silly. If you do want to have an argument, or even a polite discussion over the academic/educational qualities of today's video games, take it out of the public eye, or at the very least disassociate it from this thread.
Meanwhile Zigot, what can we do to make you go away?

Insider - I guess cfb thinks everyone just cheats on sc, and dont really plan an efficient strategy. And a "general" (assuming he means a terran general) leading... hydralisks? The hell?!
*goes back to play sc again*
And diablo had plenty of dialogue. nothing too archaic, but it does have dialogue. I dont really know what games has cfb been really playing :P

Oh...I'd like to add one vital point before I close yet another Zigot troll-o-rama thread.
Decisions are made by the person they apply to...you can't do anything to make someone do something or think something. In the end, people are going ot think what they think and do what they do, and there isn't a damned thing you can (legally) do about it.
And, quite frankly, if you're at an educational institution, using their facilities doing things that are against their policies, they have every right to tell you to stop/get you off their system. You break the rules, you live with the consequences.
Now, this thread is dead.
