BeeKay - great idea, i would like to offer myself as a referee, if you want my services.

Insider - read through the very first post. These debates require patience ("There are no strict time limits on making posts"), intelligence ("These debates are not about just spouting off random thoughts and opinions. Participants should take their time and do some research"), coherence, and the ability to read and understand other people's posts, and respond appropriately.

very rarely have i seen a post of yours that display such qualities, and if you look through this thread, you'll see what i mean (Bump Bump Bump Bump etc).

Think seriously about it. If you do not want to be part of this, may i humbly suggest that you sit back, observe, and shut up.

I can understand that many (like myself) are rearing to go...but investing a bit of time, patience and forethought into this (exactly as BeeKay is doing) is probably the best way to handle the 'creation' of this formal debate thing...and because it is 'his baby' so to speak, we should give him all the support he needs...and avoid stepping on his toes...

And as long as it is ok with BeeKay, Skaarjj, I don't see why you couldn't referee...I, for one, would welcome your participation. Thanks for joining...

hehehehe, i wouldnt mind referreeing this one, to be honest religeon to be doesnt inspire me one way or another and therefore i have no bias either way, would love to take part on the anti drugs side of that debate when it rears its head....as ya may have seen from some of my posts elsewhere i have ultra strong beliefs..

So far we have the following folks taking sides on the presented issues:

Drug

--Pro: Njuice42, InSiDeR, Webshaman
--Con: Tomeaglescz

So, it looks to me like we might be able to get a God debate going if I have the participants listed correctly. Drugs, on the other hand, is not yet ready.

Besides these two issues, are there any other subjects out there that might garner a bit more interest?

And to politely repeat, I will be refereeing the first debate, just to kinda show "how it's done." After that, though, refereeing is up for grabs on all other debates that get off the ground.

I have one suggestion - can we have a 'random' debate?
6 people sign up for the debate, and are assigned sides and a topic without their choice. It can be a fun way to really test how good these fellas are at debating.

That is one of the best ideas that I've heard to come out of this debate forum since it started reit! That sounds really cool!

I like reitsma's idea... mighty fine one if you ask me.

As for the drug debate... it does seem a little one sided, eh? InSiDeR, would you mind entirely if I asked you to switch teams? I know I hold no ground on the subject, and I'm not trying to run the show... just a little request, so we can get it started sooner, instead of waiting for two more people to come into the Con side.

Coolness...I can handle refereeing, I really don't care what I referee, altyhough the God debate would probably be better than me, I'm a bit biased on the drugs issue. I don't mind what I end up with though, just give me a topic, and away I go.

When you say drugs, are we taking all drugs or strictly chronic? Ill go con if we are talking all drugs. I can think of exactly one reason marijuan should be illegal, so I can't debate against it.

I can go pro-life in abortion
against affirmtive action
pro or against gun control, depending on your defintion of control
pro stem cell research, genetic engineering (did a high school thesis on this)
against prayer in school
pro cloning research

I tend to go to left on research and scientific advancements
tend to be conservative on more traditonal social values
