Outdated argument aside, your anaology is severely flawed KaosKlerik.

For starters, in your fantastically vague and ignorant quote above, the car in question is not actually black. It is a color which we have commonloy accepted - by it's darkness and low saturation - that would name black. True black is the absense of color, which would essentially mean an absence of light. A paint color called black, and a total lack of color are two immensely different things.

As for the religion part of it -
Certainly, there are those who are atheists, and who build a pseudo-religion on top of that belief. These people could reasonbaly be referred to as religious atheists, if yo ulike.

That does not make atheism a religion. And it's not a matter of splitting hairs - it is a huge and significant distinction.

I don't beleive in god. I am an atheist. That is where it stops. There is no set of beliefs which must then follow. There is no "atheist dogma" that I adhere to.

A simple belief in regard to whether or not there is a god is not in any way a religion. Religion is a specific set of beliefs regarding - not whether or not a diety exists - but what that diety expects from you, how to behave accordingly, and what your rewards or punishments will be based on that.

Atheism, being a simple word to describe a belief that there is no such thing as a god, cannot posibly carry such a conotation. To use the word atheism to describe a pseudo-religion which is based - in part - on the idea that there is no god (and to then attempt to hold all atheists, and the term atheisim itself accountable to that misnomer) is vastly ignorant.

It's like saying that anyone who beleives in god is a Muslim. =)
