I don't have a problem with this statue and I think it's good to capture the horror of that day. I don't want us to sugar coat what happened. The "floaters" will always be foremost in my mind when I think of the suffering that came from the brutal attacks of 9/11.

What do you all think of the statue?

Hmmm...that's a tough call. Though I personally have nothing against it...I like brutal reality...for others living in their illusions, maybe it really isn't appropriate. My 'instinct' says, keep it. If it is 'bothering' some, then it is obviously getting the point across. It does tend to 'stick' in ones mind, doesn't it?

Though for those working everyday in a high-rise, maybe that isn't a good way to start the day...

I saw this story on the news earlier tonight... and like WS said, if it's shocking people then it's doing what it was meant to do. Though in the lobby of a building? Perhaps a park, or relocate it to add to the memorial for WTC... just kinda seems like it wouldn't be the most accepting place to park that particular piece of art.

This from the article:

quote:
"I don't think it dignifies their deaths," said Paul Labb. "It's not art. It is very disrupting when you see it."

Um, so, things that are disrupting are not art? And to think, I thought Picasso's Guernica was art. Silly me.

Is the statue art? Yes. Will somebody be disturbed by it? Yes. Is that the idea? Yes.

I have no work to do right now, it is really boring....

Anyway.

If statues offend you, then you are stupid. Wake up stupid people. This is America, not Complanica.

Yep, Suho has it right on. It's supposed to bring back what we felt when we were watching it happen live. It's supposed to be disturbing. All these liberal, green-weenines need to wake up and take a look at the real world around us every now and then.

"All these liberal, green-weenines ..."

I'd be bettin' it's the *conservative* green-weenines doin' the twitch thing. (no reference to our resident btw)

what's a "green-weenine" anyway?

And I thought only Sean Hannity could make EVERYTHING into a liberal v. conservative issue.

I've not heard of Sean Hannity but would imagine he's a first cousin to Rush Limbaugh.

I agree I have no problems with the statue. I saw the piece on the news the other night and it is rather abrupt and it makes you stop.,....but like Suho said thats what it's meant to do......the only problem is probably the location on the statue. I amnot sure if Rockerfeller Plaza is the place for that maybe a park or at the WTC site or in a gallery that is commerating the 911 attacks.

I think it's poorly conceived and ugly to boot. Bonehead play. Let the artist create, if the public doesn't want to see it, it won't be in public long =) Whomever didn't see those reacs coming is a nimrod.

More than likely, Jason, the artist did see the reaction coming, and that was exactly what he was shooting for, unless...like you said, he is a nimrod.
