GABA has an interesting relationship with both endogenous endorphin levels and HGH. A reduction in GABA results in a decreased production of both of those substances. If HGH levels are increased, GABA levels also increase. If GABA levels are increased, HGH production rises.

As a competitive bodybuilder, I played around with supplimental GABA in the early '90s. I never noticed any memory improvement, but then I very rarely had to count over 8 anyway.....

So, does that mean the drug companies should halt pursuit on treatments and cures for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, all the cancers, Huntington's, etc... just because people in third world countries are dying of malaria, dysentery, cholera and other utterly preventable diseases? These are the sicknesses that most people in underdeveloped countries die from. Wouldn't it behoove us better to teach these people about proper hygeine and provide assistance (both financially and technologically) for better sanitation? Why does the responsibility have to be on the drug companies?

I think this GABA thing is an amazing breakthrough. I don't think it absurd in the least that drug companies would want to research this further. Here's another article on the subject... this one states the university is seeking patents on compounds.

Nope i didn't mean that at all. They advertised it as a gimmick pill, as big as viagra. I hope it does help the aged, except if we go into this side of things won't there be to many old people living, an inbalance approaching.?

Personally i would rather see more money spend on the young, and treatment for AIDS and conditions like chronic myeloid leukaemia be cheaper in other countries.
If you saw the programme i did, even though is was not representing ALL the facts fairly, certainly raised alot points that need to be addressed about the morals of BIG PHARMA.

Your absolutely right. But there are other diseases that need treating to.
There is a big difference between reasonable profit and Obscene profit , now is it right that NORVIS charge $19 a capsule for imatinib (Glivec) But a Indian generics company can make it for $1 a capsule.?
The same for a 12 year old boy dying of aids but had thrush is his mouth, he needed fluconazole (Diflucan) in Honduras Pfizer sell for $29 a capsule. In Guatemala they sell it for $0.30. So a doctor, or health worker goes over the border to risk imprisonment to obtain the drugs they can afford.
I agree that generic companies dont have the marketing costs etc. so they can make cheaper drugs .........but as i have read these drugs companies dont reveal exactly how much it costs to develope drugs. Also they have sharholders to keep happy. In my book, health and share holders are not a nice mix. There is room for compromise other wise so many would not be campaigning for fair trade.

The generic companies , i think i'm not 100% sure, are being made to patent their drugs, so the cheap drugs that some in the 3rd world can afford will be no longer.


Personally i don't happen to think this is right, and will campaign against it.

Pink- There is nothing in GABA research thus far that says it will extend the life of a person. The only thing it currently even suggests is that it may improve the living condition. Spending money on cures for ailments of the young will do nothing more than create more old people- feeding into your "imbalance."

In my previous post I stated all the cancers. This includes chronic myleoid leukemia. Imatinib, one of the treatments for this cancer is one of those rare exceptions in the drug industry where it skipped a large portion of the clinical trial phase. The FDA has approved it for use as a first line treatment of CML. Now, there are only about 40,000 (source) people in the US currently suffering from CML.
