My college history class is beginning to wrap things up for the year. That means it is time to finish with essays and such and begin to watch historical movies. There is one movie that we recently began (though as of this post haven't finished) entitled "Chariots of the Gods." It is a documentary that looks as though it dates back to the seventies. The overall theme is supposed to be UFOs and aliens and such. They ended up showing less of the Area 51, which in the past decade has taken centerstage for the UFO hunters. This shows cavedrawings and such, things from the past that suggest UFO encounters in paleolithic times.

Here are a few things that were shown in this movie, to help you better understand where i am coming from.

There is a monastary in Romania. It is a very old building, i think the date was in the 13 or 1400s (though i am not completely sure). It is not far from ordinary until you sumble upon a mosaic that hangs above an altar. It is of Jesus and his diciples, surrounded by other biblical men and women. The mosaic is rectangular and probably a good 12 feet long. In the upper right and left corners, there are spaceships--UFOs. They look very similar to what modern day humans would depict as a UFO, very streamlined. (All of this was caught on tape) Were there really alien visitors? I have an idea about this which i will share in a minute.

Another example in the movie was of an old Mayan temple. The people who live around the temple, who have a destinct lineage with the Mayans, didn't even want to show the documentarians the temple. With special permission form the Mexican gov't, they were allowed to go inside and film for a half of an hour. The temple contained carvings of what the locals called a 'flying god.' Inside, the carving was hidden deep within the temple. When they got to the gigantic mural, it was unbelievable. There was a man (the god) in a reclined position, a positions that resembled that of a US Astronaut ready for lift off. Behind him, there were flames that were coming out of a couple rocket engines. Very wild.

Lastly, there were also various cave drawings of what seemed to be astronauts, but what the documentary called 'aliens.'

Ok, here is is, the question. Would it be possible that the 'aliens' that everyone is seeing is really only people from the future coming back to study us? Wouldn't that be the most in depth history class ever? Not that that would be the only reason for someone to come back, but it is an example.

We all know the history of the spanish coming to south america, all of the natives thought that the white men were gods, and worshiped them. wouldn't it be probable that, say, the mayans saw the astronauts/timetravelers, with their rockets or what have you. Doesn't it seem likely that they would have thought them too, as gods?

I guess this post will really play on if you belive in time travel and if you denounce it using the grandfather paradox and whatnot, but it would explain how Michel Nostradame got some of his answers.

A thought in closing: this one is a streach. This kinda ties into the Matrix thread. What if the time travelers from the future are us. That could explain Easter Island. Maybe many years ago, the human civilization was advanced enough to build the pyramids and stonehenge and the statues on easter island. Then one day they discover time travel and decide to come back, to view the civilization as it was in the past. Something or other goes wrong, the past is changed and therefore the future. They are stranded and the future must be rebuilt over again. When they do, they discover how to travel in time again, repeating the cycle. Kinda like in the Matrix Reloaded: the coversation with the archetect.
Like i said, it is a stretch.

I am not looking for the answers of the universe, just thoughts to make this universe more intriguing. I appreciate your replies =)

"Chariots of the Gods" (and its follow ups) were a series of books by Erich von Daniken and they are great examples of the fact that you can find evidence to support just about any half-baked idea (if you were to voerlook simpler expalantion and sakte over stuff like facts, etc.). The expalantion isn't that aliens are time travellers it is that von Daniken (deliberately or misguidely) misinterpretted evidence and mapinpulate facts to support his theory.

It looks like there is a TV series too which might be interesting in an X Files kind of way (lush site too):

He even has his own Google directory:

the difference between ignorant and educated people is that the latter know more facts. But that has nothing to do with whether they are stupid or intelligent. The difference between stupid and intelligent people--and this is true whether or not they are well-educated--is that intelligent people can handle subtlety. They are not baffled by ambiguous or even contradictory situations--in fact, they expect them and are apt to become suspicious when things seem overly straightforward. [Constable Moore in "Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson]

i prefer to think of time travel, not in terms of travelling through time; that is, into the future or past; but rather, outside of time. this is a multi-dimensional life we live, in a multi-dimensional world. there may be alien "gods" and ther may be a "GOD", but we will only find the answers if we continue to search outward. In order for anyone who's spent any amount of time checking their facts to even speculate that something might exist, like aliens or time travel, that person would have to be presented with new information.

Using stuff like van Daniken's work to expostulate the existence of life on other planets is useless because van Daniken has been debunked so very many times already...

I'm willing to speculate about the existence of life on other planets, and even the possibility that intelligent life has visited the planet throughout history. But you're going to have to give me something more to go on than Erich von Daniken...

And don't use any of it in the same paragraph as Nostradamus. I think people read WAY too much into his quatraines...

You might want to spend some time checking out the archaeological documentation on the Giza Plateau. They have recently uncovered the city of the people who built the pyramids, and figured out the precise methods used to place the great stones. I assure you, they have found no evidence of otherworldy technology...

I posted this topic knowing that i didn't know the facts. It seems as though the people who post here are trying to have a struggle to see how superior they are, and how supid other people are or something. I presented you guys with the few facts that i had, and asked you for a FRIENDLY responce. Ideas on the topic and content, not how little i knew about what i was asking about. I know i don't know that much about it, that is why i came to you guys for some input.

Orienos, input you got from us...just because it doesn't meet up with your expectations, is no reason to get hissy about it...

Fact is, no-one is forced to comply to anything here...members post their opinions.

You also need to be aware of the fact that many of these things have been discussed here before...maybe take a trip through the Archives, with the search function...

We are not here to serve you...it would be good to remember that. I understand, from your post, that this subject has caught a bit of your interest - if you really want to learn more, google is your friend. I can't really speak for others, but von Daniken is about as looney as it gets...well, there are others who are worse...but he became quite a 'public' figure, with his rubish.

I've seen that film a few times now, and it's really beginning to show its age. It's not fact, just coincidence twisted around to look like fact. It's damn funny, in my opinion.

Orienos: I'm not sure what you were expecting - von Daniken is incredibly widely known and hugely influential in certain quarters (right up to Graham Hancock's bestsellers) but it has also been subjected to a lot of debate and analysis (which have shown up its flawed arguements). As you stated ou'd only just discovered his work did you expect us to not point out these facts?

Don't just moan - if you are interested in the topic do a search for ancient astronauts and have a read through stuff. There may be a copy of one of his books in the library and there are few secondhand book shops that don't have a copy of Chariots of the Gods. Just take a big pinch of salt with you
