Now that it is summer, it is time for everyone to get busy and start moving around. With everyone moving and on the go, we have very little time to relax. How do you relax? What do you do for fun? I am looking for new things to do this summer and i thought that a little imput from you guys would definately give me a head start. BTW i live in an area with plenty of water and beaches, but most of the things i am used to doing there are getting old. Anyone have any ideas? |

IT's called a Geoduck. Evidentally, they are native to Puget Sound (Seattle area). They can grow to be like 2 meters long. |

No, Suho, they're very real, maybe not that big though, but I've heard of them reaching up to 2 meters. |

CFB- that sounds like a friend of mine at work. Only he does the gut growing in the winter, and works it off in the summer. He suggested that i build a cabin in the woods and try to live there for a while without much outside help. But i have to work and make money, so that wouldn't fly. Remids me of Thoreau's "Walden." Could be fun if i could brew my own beer =) |

WHOA! those geoducks are like one big part of the male anatomy. What are they used for? That is to say why to people 'hunt' them? They look like a deformed clam or something. That has to be the strangest thing that i have ever seen. Do people eat those things? |
Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea |

OK, so it's a type of clam or something. Why do they call them "ducks"? And are they good eating? |

I love to rollerblade at the beach. It helps to relieve stress and when I really want to have some fun I'll fly my kites on the beach. |

Yes, well, thankfully we don't have geoducks in these parts so I feel quite secure rollerblading down here. But you can be sure I will never rollerblade in the Puget Sound area for fear of being attacked by a perturbed phallic Panopea abrupta. |

The area in which i live is full of seafood. It seems really odd that clams could get that big, and grow a phallus. it must be a pain in the neck to harvest those things. Do you have a picture of one that is two meters long? That would be cool. |

WS - what do you like to fish for? My husband is big into bass fishing for sport. He just likes to catch and release. He tells me its very relaxing for him. When I was very little, my grandfather used to take us fishing with him. My brother accidentally released his line when he flipped the rod back to cast - and I got a worm on a hook stuck in my hair! I haven't fished myself since... |

Pike - wow! Sounds like a sporting good time, actually. I bet they put up a fight once you've got them hooked. But I'd keep my bare fingers away from those toothful mouths too! Eek! It makes me think of the moat scene in Disney's The Sword in the Stone... |

Well, I don't know if it is a Wels...that's a huge predatory fish, here in Europe. They have been known to eat dogs. They grow to be over 2 meters long. |

No - definitely carp or catfish. The pond is a manmade one, and stocked by the owners of the land. It's fed by a rain runoff stream, hardly bigger than a creek. That's the reason there are so many fish in it - no predators. It had not even been fished in probably 40 years before James began working there. Lots of brim, big big bass, catfish and carp, and Leviathan! But no predatory fish... |
Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: Happy Hunting Grounds... |
