I have only done this a few times and it expensive so you realy need to consult with the printer/bindry that will be applying the foil it's will requires a special setup one there part. When I have done it I just supplied a document in Quark showing showing only where the foil is to be applied. The printer then created the necessary Plate or Die. One could perhaps also supply the the full job, with the the foil as a spot color set to non-printing, another thing to consider sometime there is a limited area where the foil can be applied do to equipment and ink coverage. |

I used to work for a printer that had a hot foil machine. The maximum plate area was about 6x4". we had a grid made up of quarter inch increment lines which was used to position 5mm drill holes to fix the plate to the press. we had to use between 4 and 6 drill holes depending on the size of the image but no drill hole could be within half an inch of the image or distortion would occur |
