Or prop your camera against something. Hand-sized beanbags work great for situations like that. Also, try propping it up and using the timer (if you have one). That way you reduce hand-shake. Flip your digital cam over and look on the bottom. Is there a screw-hole on the bottom of it? If so, it's already set for a tripod. If not, your manufacturer probably makes an adapter that will allow you to use one. They make all kinds of tripods.
