A couple of well-timed freelance jobs enabled me to purchase a wonderful Canon 10D.

So, I headed south to shoot the Congress Avenue Bats -- for the umpteenth time -- and the World's Largest Wooden Nickel. On the way home, I got the itch to take a random road as I so often did in my younger days ... and I came across this.

It's been years since I've just shot. Expensive film and destructive cookie-cutter processing had slowly, almost without my noticing, completely put me off taking pictures just for myself. A part of me had been taken away.

It's back.

Cool, I love rusty stuff. I wonder how much a gas is at that pump? Are you shooting "raw" or jpegs?

Eh, RAW's the way to go, even if you have to buy a huge memory card to do it. I'd never trust a digicam to compress my images for me...

And it's good to hear that "that part of you" is back

Congratulations

I bought my 10D months ago, and it had the same effect. I didn't shoot the Nikon film SLR because film was too much hassle. I didn't shoot much with the digital P&S because it wasn't an SLR. Now I go to the zoo like every other week, and take macro shots on a whim. I'm going to start taking it to work so I can shoot downtown at lunch once the weather gets a bit cooler.

Best investment I've made in ages. Keeps hitting my bank account, though. Always need just that one more lens or accessory

Thanks. Yeah, I'm shooting raw, though I'm not sure I'm totally convinced of its advantages. But I will hopefully learn to use the correction tools more effectively.

Of course, now the two 512 MB cards I have don't hold nearly as much, so I'm considering one of those portable storage units with the LCD screen. Anyone have any experience with a particular model?

Hey Wes, if you've ever considered buying some photoshop actions, I can tell you much can be learned from these. Not to mention they save a lot of time correcting stuff. I shoot high quality jpgs with my D60 and don't have too many complaints. There doesn't seem to be a free raw converter for OS X so I'm just waiting for PS 8.
