paths.. dont be afraid to be like frost and take the one less travelled..anything from sidewalk views to footprints in the sand..

A few guidelines:
1. Photo needs to go along with the subject in some way.
2. Use thumbnails for photos with any dimension larger than 450 px or over 40 kb.
3. Post as many as you want.
4. At the end of the week the person who chose the topic will pick someone to choose the next topic. This isn't a "winner," just someone who gets to suggest the next topic.
5. No critiques (unless requested) this is just to share our photos.
6. No sigs.

Apparently this topic and assignment do not exist.

Why you might ask?
Because "...noone is so f*ing stupid as to take pictures of paths.."

So I'm told...

OK, to elaborate.
I tried to get in the game this week, and went walking during lunch. Not far from the office we have a small forrest-like area that goes down to the sea with a few walking paths crisscrossing through.

So.. today was a rather cold day so there was a rime on the trees and on the narrow path I found. I find a nice spot to take the photo from, tests a few angles and then snaps it off, only to hear a scream.

Apparently this 65+old lady is walking her dog on the same path and I took the photo in her direction. For some reason the thought of being caught on "film" made her go ballistic. (she actually appeared as this minute inrecignizable figure in the lower right).
Not only did she drown me in verbal abuse (and threatened me with her silly little lapdog), but she made me erase the photo, and refuse to believe anything I tried to tell her.
(Thus the introduction lines)

When we finally reached a standoff (I asked her to move along so I could take anothe pic. Silly me!) I had to rush back to the office for a meeting. Now the rime and thus the opportunity is gone

Oh, well... People will never cease to amaze me...

Just remember to pity these people rather than hate them. Anyone who so easily gets upset at something like that and refuses to let it go is severely unhappy in life and looking for something to fill the hole.

The dog you can hate.

There are many religious/cultural groups who sincerely believe that if you take their picture, you are capturing a piece of their soul.
Always ask someone if you can take their picture, at least before you publish it.

But I agree that hating the lap-dog is fine. Yappy little things...

my contribution to this week's topic...
The road to Lindisfarne Castle, Lindisfarne, England, July 2003.
edit: that's my mother at the top of the hill... she didn't care about the picture...

...and this one, which requires some explanation:
The 2 pylons that you can see to each side of the safe box mark the path of the Pilgrim's Crossing from the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne to the mainland (Berwick-upon-Tweed) across the floor of the ocean. At high tide, Lindisfarne is inaccessible except by boat. If one is taking the Pilgrim's Crossing and gets caught as the tide rushes in (rather quickly, I might add), you can run to these safe boxes, set at regular intervals, and a little man in a boat will come get you...

Wow, great topic this week. I've never posted in a POW, but I am an avid reader. I happen to like paths, though, and I happen to have a path photo at my site: rice paddy

Not the best picture, perhaps (I'm a complete amateur when it comes to photography), but I like it. I liked it enough to build a color scheme for my site around it.

I'll see if I can dig up some other path photos and scan them in before the week is through.

This one is not as pretty as all the above but, it is the reality of parts of the jungle in which I now live. There are rows of terraced houses side by side, back to back and where they meet at the back there is this path. They are known as "Jiggers" or "back jiggers" and are dark and smelly. They have been called that for over 100 years, reportedly becauseif while walking through one if you meet a person coming the other way, you both have to do a little "jig" to get past each other.

I love the photos this week and was wondering if anyone used the photography guideline of leading lines. There are several posted that the path leads the eye into the photo making the viewer want to see more. Great photos !

I've been in the hospital with a kidney stone and didn't get to take photos this week. This photo of a old covered bridge was done back in August.
