Ok I got a question. I got the DSC-P52 Sony and everytime I take a picture without flash the picture is like all black. I am trying to take a decent picture in a room that isnt lite but the object I am shootign is my lit up computer. Someone that has this camera tell me what to do.

hmmmm, first take the lens cap off

Seriously, I think you need to check your settings. It's dark in there except this one light source so I guessing a F # at maybe 4.0 or less. The EV reading should show a zero then you know you're about right unless you want it a little deeper then maybe have it at a -3. I do this all in manual setting. If it's TOO dark in there then the shutter will be open longer to allow enough light for it to expose correctly so you might want to use a tripod if you have one

I hope this helps.

You have to fool around in manual mode. Press manual and scroll up to the little moon. Press over and adjust the EV like Shiiizzzam said.... and you might also try experimenting with the white balance.

Over all, I am not impressed by any of the Cybershot series in regards to taking night shots. Its a great overall camera, and probably the best buy for the money, but I drool over the pictures that people like say the person above me can take with her toy.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one Nemesis, I've gotten some absolutely great night shots with my F707 (same cam that Shi has). Shots like this one in San Antonio,

I'd do like Shi said and try using a longer exposure with your camera propped on something. Bean bags or the like work great when you don't have a tripod. Mess with the manual settings and take a bunch of photos. Trial and error is the best way to learn what your camera can do.

Ok.... My bad.

I didn't realize the 707 was consider apart of the Cybershot series.

I was refering to the DSC series.......

The DSC series has very limited control over what you can and can't do. Like I said, you can change it to the "little moon" setting for night/dark shots, but thats it. There is no manual adjusting of the exposure time.

I have fooled around quite a bit with my DSC-P72, and for example, the best shot I can take of the moon just as easily could be someone holding a flashlight.

The full name of the F707 is the DSC-F707.

I am not an expert, by any means. I have only had my P72 for a couple of months.

The main reasons why you can't take good night sky pictures with this class of camera is because they only allow for the shutter to be open for about 2 seconds and they don't have a good enough zoom to get a small enough piece of the sky in an image.

As for a picture of your screen. Here is one that I took using auto mode, with the flash turned off. It would have been much cleared if I had used a tripod (which I don't have).

By the way, I am assuming you want to do this to use your camera to take the photo. The simples way to get what you want would be to use <alt+print screen>

Ok.......... I give up........ I have only seen it refered to as an F707.....

Maybe its the -P series...... In anycase, there is a bunch of them from 2-5 Megs that all have the same sort of design/electronics involved with them. For example, the only real difference between the DSC-P52 and the -P72 is the zoom lens. (x2 vs x3)

It still doesn't change the answer though.

fact_bill - I don't think he was going for the monitor... My guess is a modified case with neon lights or something....
