(I'm taking college photography courses) I went to a John Shaw seminar recently and his main complaint he sees in new photographers is...they buy great cameras and lens yet will go out and buy a cheap tripod to support them. A good tripod doesn't have to cost a arm and a leg. Just make sure you get a good sturdy one. He did say the Bogen would be his choice.
