Hello again,<P>Good work, Doc! I think this new forum is more attractive... well, my question
for this forum it´s about multimedia tools. What tools do you all use for your
multimedia projects, beyond Director (that is a expensive tool!) ? I was
searching the net to find alternatives, but I think that the market is very poor.
We have alternatives like Illuminatus, but it is not ... well... a good multimedia
tool in my opinion. I´m trying to do a little multimedia project for a friend and
buying Director is out of question. I´m searching, my friends... I´m searching...<P>Best regards,

I gotta agree, Director is an *awesome* tool, much better than Flash when it comes to fine control. The 30 day trial is the real McCoy, a fully functional version. (The idea is to get you hooked, of course!) Adobe LiveMotion is supposed to be in heavy competition, but my first trial version was only so-so. Heavy learning curve anyway you look at it, I guess.

I wasn't to impressed with my download of Adobe Livemotion either, it is functional of course, but nothing outstanding. As for the Director thing, Director 8 Shockwave Studio was recently released. It will only cost you a mere $999(US). Or, how about a $399-$499(US) upgrade. Wow, director is cool, but how cool can it get?!?<P>------------------

Where's the justification in some of these prices. The adobe shop is now back online this side of the 'pond' with photoshop 5.5 for £405 + vat (around 650$ US).
Yes the program is good and I know it costs to produce, but what about the future of the industry. Does anyone really believe that the young talent - the industry's future - can continue shelling out the bucks. Spaceward Graphics 'Satori' program is over 1,000$ US. <P>With sales increasing due to consumer demand, the trend should be downwards in cost, not the other way 'round.<P>Sorry Doc, but it kinda 'P*****' me off.<P><P>------------------

Hey not a problem, vent away! I rememebr when I dropped $999 for Director Studio 5, and 3 weeks later out came the upgrade to 6.0. Cost for the upgrade? $500. Any special deal for me, the poor sap who bought the studio FROM THEIR HOME OFFICE? Nada. The guy who sold it to me had to have known the new release was right there too. <P>For these reasons, I really don't feel bad when a dedicated newcomer finds and uses a warez copy of any of these programs. If they learn it, and start making money, then let them pay, but how should people get started? At least Adobe doesn't rip you that badly with the upgrade costs.<P>-doc-

True Doc, the upgrades only £79 for 5.5.<P>I've just spent a worthwhile hour checking out a link to a Bryce site at Eddie Designs.
Now that is one prog I will shell out on -
(Bryce 4 - 199$US).<P>Say where is Eddie these days.

Dear Friends,<P>You all have made your point with true reasons. We all know that Director is THE
profissional tool for multimedia authoring, but Doc was focus one big true: price!!!
For newbies, or people that aren´t profissional, it is a expensive tool. For example,
I just can not buy this wonderfull piece of software. In Portugal 1 dolar is about 200
escudos, so director price target it´s about 180 000 escudos. The medium salary
is about 100 000 per month.
Another thing... I think that is bad for the market the lack of options with quality...
in small software packages. Do you know about options for average tool with

I downloaded the full working version of Director 7 t'other night - 15.1mb for us PCers..played around with the tutorial for creating a banner, yeah it really is an excellent package, but it does look a heavy learning curve.. <IMG SRC="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif"><P>------------------

I love the "tutorials". I guess we'd have to shell out a few bucks for a good book for it. Either that or spend many sleepless nights learning the thing! Any suggestions about learning director Doc....anyone?
