Ok, i know people will thrash me for this, but you can get full downloads of PS 5.5 online in various warez sites... I usually dont support this option, because the developers of good programs deserve to earn their keep, but in my view, Adobe charges way too much for the full program. I currently use the trial version, which contains everything besides the "SAVE" option, and over-run that by saving finished pics in the cumbersome way of print-screen, open in PSP and save. i loose all layers and such but at least i can get some good things without selling my underwear.<P>You might want to consider getting an illegal copy... even if its not nice.<P>Never Pet a Burning Dog

Actually, this is one of the areas where I can be a bit flexible over the somewhat illicit "evaluation" copies. I've watched a bunch of folks starting out, talented people, who simply couldn't afford the $500-600. Yet. Now, if you aspire to do this professionally, and you start making money from it, and still use pirate copies, then you can be scum. I just went on a big spending spree at work, making sure everyone who used the graphics proggies has licenced copies, spent over $5000 in one fell swoop. Felt good in a way, I like the pretty boxes, and always display them prominently, shows your clients you're a straight shooter. Did you know most licences also allow you to use the software at home too, on your personal computer, with no guilt? Read the fine print, some of these are pretty cool. Student copies are also quite cheap, worth looking into. I had one friend who signed up for a cheap cheap extension class, got his student status, and bought all sorts of software, good deal. Another guy I know haunts the used bookstores, buying old software manuals for software he desires. Many of these *include the registration papers*, intact! You can find yourself the proud owner of a licenced version of Photoshop 1.0, and then pay the upgrade fee to bring it to v5.5! Think about it, legal, ethical, and smart.<P><IMG SRC="http://www.ozones.com/forum/siggie.gif" border=0>

Doc , words well spoken , I still can't understand warez boards that post application programs , it benifits nobody ?
I actually have bought second hand software from the original owner , who after full purchase couldn't use it on his best day ! and then asked me if I wanted them for a discount .. (out of frustration ). But if a person tries demos and evaluation copys and starts to make money , ( and a career )he should do the right thing ..<P>The Chuckster

I appreciate the Warez tips. I knew about that option, but struggle with the ethics. I am even more appreciative for the suggestion that I buy an old version and upgrade more affordably. As I struggle to get back to an income-producing mode, common geocity slug that I am, even I would shell out the bucks to buy the full deal once able. I agree, it's the right thing to do. Everyone, including the web designer, has the right to compensation for their work.

As i said, i dont support warez sites usually, and dont download from them. The Adobe guys really do a good job, and deserve the money. still, i think it would be more accessible and in the long run, more profitable to have the program being sold at a cheaper cost. I suspect the awful costs (here in Israel the cost can get up to $1,200 for a legal copy due to taxation on puter proggies) are a part of a magic cycle in which the programmers demand outrageous fees in order to cover losses due to piracy, which in turn arises more piracy that causes even higher costs, etc. Therefor, i dont find much flaw in an occasional circumvention of the rules, especially when done for private usage and learning, and not for profit. So the bottom line is, if you are learning and using the program on your private puter, i dont think you should have much remorse about getting an illegal or semi-legal copy. If you want to work with it for profit, get the real thing. The support would be important in that case anyway. Another option, which is...lets say...doubtable, is to get an illegal copy and when you earn some money out of it, buy the real thing. but thats up to each and every ones conscience.
Just my 2 cents.<P>Never Pet a Burning Dog

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum...spent the last 1 1/2 hours reading posts and happened upon this one. I know most of ya'll are PS users and I'd love to be one also, but....right now I use PSP 6. Yep, but I like it. One day I'll get and use PS though I enjoy reading the PS tutorials, and amazingly some can even be used in PSP. Not all but some.<P>Anyway, wanted to thank Doc for the forum, hope ya'll don't mind my hanging around, picking up pointers and posting occasionally <P>Loved that tip on picking up old manuals....hmmmm <P>Kathie

Does anyone know where I can find myself a book with an early version of Maya? I can't afford to buy it new, but I could probably afford the upgrade cost... And I wanna play with it!!<P> - Dan -

Well, if you want one with photoshop5.5 and a whole lot of stuff, doesn't make you vote, and isn't *always* full of porn. Go to http://www.warezstart.com/download <P>They seem to have lots of stuff there, my friend downloaded The Sims there, I haven't found anything I wanted enough to steel there...<P> - Dan -
