What's the difference between a 404 error and a 401 error? And what other kinds of errors are there?

Slimer:

A 404 error is a missing file error, it marks when a user requests a file that doesn't exist on the server (URL mistypes etc.)

A 401 error is an Unauthorized Access error. It occurs when people try and view a file or directory that they don't have authorization to view.

I was telling a friend about this just the other day, so I snagged a link from that conversation. It lays out, semi decently, the common errors and numbers online (even the dreaded 500 for scripts)

Hope it helps. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">
