Preserved Topic: The SlimeCam

Having been inspired by the Ozone-Cam, and many other web cams like it, I finally got my own and i've gotten it going! Take a look at the SlimeCam:

Oh dear. La'dsasha, you don't even know what Slimes are, do you? Well, to simplify, he's the thing you see in that so called "web cam"... Well, that's a very inadequate explanation, but you'll discover over time what slimes are.

That thing took me forever to make... 57 images total, all rendered in POV-Ray with radiosity. I think I learned a lot about how to work with light in POV-Ray as I made this. Come back at other parts of the day and you'll notice the sun has moved and they'll be doing different things. At night it'll be all dark, of course.

Anyway, I thought this was a nifty little thing, so I'll be adding it to my page; I'm planning to update my home page soon so that it's actually fun to go there (for more reasons than the floating slime)! (by the way, if you spend enough time with that floating slime, you can get him to do nifty tricks, like a figure-8 which i'm still trying to do myself. The Slime Launcher: I believe that's at http://www.angelfire.com/ma2/slimesareneat2/slimelaunch/LMain.html . A fun thing to play around with sometime.

I'm hoping to compile all these little fun things I've made on my home page, which is why I plan to update it.

If you look at the sunlight coming through the window on the floor you'll see that the position never changes. It's a scam! The slime webcam is an utter hoax! You heard it here first.

Elementary my dear Jestah, if you will look at the light cast through the window onto the floor behind Slime and Katy (lovely woman by the way) it remains in the same place always. Now if what I learned in school was fact, the earth rotates around the sun thus changing the angle of the light source constantly (not always 120 degrees from the upper left as some Photoshoppers may think). It stands to reason then that the light in these stills from slime's 'webcam' would be in different places at different times of the day.

I'm sure there are other clues but this fact alone validates the hoax statement. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Perhaps we should all consider putting up 'webcams' and make a 'webcam' webring. We could rake in millions in advertising revenue. I could put up a nice kitty litterbox cam. Anyone else wanna join the ring?

Hey! The sun *does* move! Hah, not completely, but in the morning you can see a little of it hitting the chair and the rest is out of view. In the noontime, it hits the floor and couch. In the late afternoon, it hits the door and wall next to the door. So, it *kinda* moves.

Ahha! There was a hoax. All that stuff in school we learned about the earth rotating around the sun was obviously wrong. Thank you Slime for showing us how horrible US schools really are ...

actually the earth's rotation probably accounts for much *quicker* light source movement than does the orbit around the sun. Felt like an idiot after reading that post. Kinda like when you tell someone to check out a URL and then forget to include it.

I'm originally from the U.S..... tell me Dan... do you think these masters and mediocres learned any of it in school? I 've been designing (uncommercially) for about the last two years and all I've ever heard out of anyone is, "put away the laptop and do your homework"... "See, that's why you failed the test, too much time on the computer" and the ever leyendary, "OK, give me your monitor cable." (forcing me to go buy another one). Correct me if I'm wrong, but did anyone of you ever receive ANY support from ANYBODY (besides other web designers and fellow junkies)? Actually, I should plan a trip to my old 'Alma Mater' and casually point out that I make more money than some of the teachers I had last year. *chuckle*


btw, the Flat Earth Society is real? I thought it was just a Bad Religeon song...hehe

My parents support me, actually. Just about every year I get a new computer, with major ram upgrades to use graphic programs, and I get most of the softwear I need. My average has only slipped once so far, when that happened, they made me take a break from the Computer. But it usually stays 85-95%.

Most of my teachers support me too. They understand why I'm always on the computer, when I hand in a project made mostly from digital art, and it blows all the other projects away (in looks at least), and I'm not even very good.

My friends still think I should get off my ass more often and do stuff with them..

Well besides being a spoiled lil shit that gets whatever he wants, Im also an honor student and varsety athlete. My parents dont seem to care about all the time i spend online. I use my time fairly productively too. If I need help with my homework, or feel like reading up on a subject to stay informed I use the net. Like Dan I get new computers all the time. My average is always between 98 - 108 so its not a big deal the time i spend online. Why did we start talking about this anyway?

Personally I dont understand what the talk of the US having bad schools is all about. I guess Im lucky to goto a nice private school but I did goto public school up till 8th grade and it wasnt bad at all. The way I feel is all education is the same, its just what you choose to do with the education and the time put into it that matters. You can goto the best school and take the best courses with the best teachers but if you get kiced outta class and goof off all day long what will you get outta it?

US schools kick butt really. Especially the universities. There's tons of people coming to the US just to go to school, that should tell you something about the quality of the education. Could always be better though. It's a long way from slime cam to public education, how'd this happen? <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

The public schools where I live are excellent. Better than most private schools in fact. I'm all for public education.

in the end, it really doesn't depend on the schools...

it's your problem, and your problem only. no one really gives a fuck about you except for yourself, perhaps family and friends if you're lucky.

i have to agree with mikey on this one (did i just say that? j/k mikey.) i am not even going to go into detail on my educational experience, for fear of overloading the server and well, anyone reading this. lets just say, it wasnt pretty.

all of you kids around here are damn lucky that you have people that care about you, and give you the inspiration to succeed (although i am sure you inspire yourselves as well). remember not to ever take that for granted.

Hey, if college is that important to you you'll go, I don't doubt it! Don't sweat a year off for work and experience in real living, it'll just help you put college in better perspective. I worked my way through my last few years of college, (having blown the first "paid for by my parents" years wasting my time partying and chasing girls. (Hey! Who said that? It wasn't wasted! Just expensive. <g> ) In my off years while saving money, I audited classes that interested me, never signed up for them, got no credits, just sat in them and learned. Good thing, learning. :-) Relax, enjoy life as it comes, and plan for tomorrow.
