My aunt just got a new gateway and I saw that it was running the windows ME edition (millennium edition). What is that? Any different from '98 or just a few fixed bugs? |

Can't go into DOS mode any more. Some GUI enhancements. No huge differences. From what I've heard, it's not worth upgrading, but it's ok to get on a new PC. All this is second hand info, btw. |

Thanks for the advice i'm planning on building my own PC and was considering Windows ME as the OS. I think I would have been a little pissed if I spent $200 and the P.O.S kept crashing on me. But what the hell it wouldn't be anything new since we run pentium 1 computers with win 95 and no memory in school, and this is for CADD computers! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/confused.gif"> |

if windows ME is to win98 like theyve done with win2k to winNT, it will be a big improvement. ive bluescreened on NT a few times on my compaq as well as this machine when it was running it. but now that im running win2k (running since its official release), ive only seen it bluescreen twice. that happened because of a bad install (this happened after my cd-rom failed while installing and i attempted to reinstall on top of it. *always* do fresh install if you can). |

Since we're on the subject of operating systems... Does anyone know if PS-6.0 will run on Win95? |

general consensus of computer dorks around here is winME is a better choice than win98... but like was said earlier, i'd wait 'til the first service pack came out. |

The poop I got on it: It's improvements are minimal and is *not* worth upgrading to, fine on a new PC however. It looks like MS is downplaying it (MS & lack of hype for their new OS should say something to you) in favor of a new consumer edition of W2000. |

I think the thing with WinME (I believe) is that Win 2K was supposed to be the home/work OS they were trying to integrate the 9x and the NT OS's into one. When Microsoft wasn't able to pull that off they released Win 2K as the new NT release and took the enhancements they had developed for the new 2K home version, added them to Win 98 and came up with Win ME. |
