Well, someone posted a link to this BB earlier. I needed one for a site I'm making for someone. Allow me to state what I've discovered...

It's free! It's the only good board I've found that's free. However, it's full of font tags (just like UBB) which need to be removed. I've basically learned a bit of Perl fixing some things up, and adding and removing some features.

However, I must say that the security is horrible. There are tons of work-arounds which I could do myself, just having used UBB boards for a couple years now. I've already spent a day fixing this up, and I'll probably spend a while more.

So, has anyone else used this board? What do you think about it? Other than the above stated, it's a pretty good one.

You know what would be great Slime is if you were to join the YaBB BB and post you thoughts there. And then report back to us.
I'm planning on joing the YaBB BB myself very soon, since I plan on using the YaBB in a site I'm going to be rebuilding (why can't I get any new sites, why must I fix other people problems) either late this year or early next. I've downloaded the YaBB and I like it, however I haven't done much beyond looking at the surface. I also like the fact that it's open source. I didn't know about the security issues, how bad are they. Font tags aren't a real bother with me really, just find 'em -n- fix 'em, which seems to be all that I do. There is just something about the YaBB that I like, I can't put my finger on it tho.

Well, the security problems aren't half as bad as I thought they were, but there is at least one serious one; although you are prevented from getting to the "edit post" page if your screen name isn't correct, you can still edit other people's posts if you know the right code to send to the script! Like, it would be something like...
http://www.mysite.com/forum/YaBB.pl?action=edit&message=Ha ha ha I can edit your message!

Something similar to that would do it. There are some other very minor problems also, but I'm reluctant to go complain on the YaBB forum when they claim that they're redoing the whole thing anyway!

It *is* a very nice forum, though.
