Vogonpoet, I'm with Doc. I'll bet that I can make a site faster, and cleaner, that will have fewer lines of code, than your site made with an editor. And I don't type fast at all, I'm still a bit of a dunder head with typing, ask anyone who's chatted with me. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> Templating a site out is a great way to work. It saves time, and keeps a nice consistent look to the site. Need a page not in the templates? No problem, just hack an existing template or two to fit your needs.

When I work with a client, it breaks down to 60% planning (working with the client ie. "Do you like this color? No. This color? No. What color do you want? Oh anything you come up with is fine. Ahrrgggh!"), 20% graphic elements (I'm slow here, really I am) 10% layout and 10% html / code work. There is more to it that this, but you get the basics

Hmm, I pretty much disagree with everything said above this. Basically everyone here has said WYSIWYG editors suck, they produce shitty code, can't do anything worth while and in the long run arent even time savers. I guess the code isnt as neat or nice as done by hand but I really dont think its that bad. Editors can do plenty of things worth while to people who dont have the time. I dont care what anyone says, to add a whole navigation system with multiple rollover images and preloading all of them could take up to around 30 seconds. Also learning the program isnt exactly rocket science. I mean hello Insert > Rollerover Images ...

I dont really use Dreamweaver as anything more then a glorified notepad, sometimes I just dont feel like writting out the code for rollovers because it would take me forever since im not the greatest coder ever. I do code mostely in hand but I do see a purpose for WYSIWYG editors.

F1's comment about the clients (working with the client ie. "Do you like this color? No. This color? No. What color do you want? Oh anything you come up with is fine. Ahrrgggh!") had me in stiches......
I think a whole new wing of the Asylum should be dedicated to crackhead stories about crackhead clients...

We had this lady once that totally loved the page, totally loved everything... except she told us to change one animation she didn't like. It took us half an hour to realize she was talking about the mouse busy ani...
I was feeling a definate 'Summer Slam' moment comming on there...

Babamba: You can always turn off the splash screen or change the image set (look at the Tools / Program Options)

I have just recently learnt html (instead of using dreamweaver), and i have never looked back. I get faster and faster at hand-coding page every time i do them, and it also gives you precise control over what you are creating.
Another thing i find great about hand-coding is that i can set the code out how i want it (ie with indents and stuff), so when i do go to edit the page, i can actually read the code, instead of having all the code cramped up into a few lines.

In other words, hand coding is the only way to go (in my opinion), and once you make the effort to learn html, then you will never look back!

Well, I didnt read many of the replies due to time, but to answer the question, I've been writing HTML since I was 18, I'm now 24, 25 in January. Never used a thing other than Notepad, so it has to be hand coded. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

As far as HTML. If using Flash, well it helps me a bit, but I design everything. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Photoshop, well it helps me too, but I design everything.

But anyway, it may take extra time, but I'm happy writing everything out in Notepad, and until i get GOOD reason to use a "helpful" editor, I wont. I love writing it, and will until my fingers fall off. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">
