Well, so they say. The consensus is that it's some kind of neato transportation device. Anyway, it comes out in 2002 and will revolutionize certain sectors of the (personal) travel economy. Might be big, might be a little overhyped. However, the big names touting its greatness lend to its credibility.

Here's an article: http://www.inside.com/jcs/Story?article_id=20218&pod_id=8&uiFiller=N

Yep. I read about "Ginger" first on Reuters news, and I was looking for the mis-spelling of the name, thought I had stumbled onto a parady site, it read like bad humor, a lame hoax! Still, another new invention, Kamen does have a history of creating cool things, if it's a personal UFO for less than $2000, I'll probably buy one, heh.

Hmm, here I found a Patent Application for what appears to be the device in question. Looks like fun, but bigger than the PC?

Bigger than the PC *and* the internet?

No Way.

I have to see it before I believe it. Maybe they're just hyping it.

I really hope that 'ginger' is as exciting and revolutionary as everybody is saying.

The only things i can think of that could possibly be bigger the PC's are like a Jetsons Jet, that can fly, safely and is highly manuverable, If you think about it, People can travel on almost all surfaces, Boats for water, Cars for land, but theres nothing that eaisly accessable for air travel, i mean, theres planes, but how many people have a plain parked in there garage or hooked to the back of your truck. It could be a hovercraft, but i dont see this as being that large of a technological advance, considering they've already been invented. If it is under the topic of transportation, its going to be something totally new, off the wall, and unthought of. How many advances could be made to a modern day car, scooter, truck, RV, that would put it over a PC in terms of. I mean, theres nothing i can think off, that you could add to a car, thats gonna blow me away.

But as i read some of the quotes from Metas Link, it became a little clearer to me. I think we all looked at the patent info doc gave us, well, i didnt know at first, but its over 20 pages long. If thats IT, then its a stand-up type scooter, that has differemt moters, that sense if you start leaning to one side, it will activate, balencing you out. And it appears, you can also accelerate, by leaning forward, or slow down, by leaning backward. The patent goes through like 25 different possible models, that could be used, some with proxemty sensors and whatnot. So it appears to be a high-tech scooter lookalike. But what can it be used for? It cant go very fast. So it wont replace cars. The only thing i can think of is pedistrian travel, but scooter > PC, doubtful.

Hey, Doc, if I understand correctly, the patent you linked to is actually an invention that he patented earlier. 'Ginger' is supposedly not pattented yet, hence the mystery, he doesn't want to reviel it until it is patented. From what I've heard it won't be shown until at the earliest 2002. Besides that invention you linked to appears to be a knock off of the 'razor' scooter that was so hot this christmas And I think that radial inertia does a pretty good job of keeping ballance, just try to tip over a motorcycle going 60 mph.

Anyways, I don't think you can put a mode of transportation and a PC in the same boat, oranges and apples.

no drak, if you read the patent info, theres alot of stuff about automated acceleration, balance + lean automation, its moterized among other things. it may not be it, but from the stuff ive read, it could be

as someone on the BB at meta's site said, IT is Internet Transport, the ability to digitise oneself, and reincarnate anywhere in the world. (reincarnate meaning to become flesh again, not to die and come back as someone else).
i can see the articles already:
"...this has captivated a collective group known as the 'ozone asylum', who have pooled their funds in an attempt to buy this technology. A man by the name of 'F1 error' was heard saying 'so... they think the asylum is a METAPHORICAL place, hey? lets see their faces when we upload them into their cells!' any further comments were impossible, as the ringleader, known simply as 'the doc', silenced him with his ever ready stun gun....."

I got a prototype of that, however, there's several bugs.

It refuses to stay in the closet.

It (often) refuses even the most basic of sexual commands.

It insists on going wherever I go....unless it involves any sort of work.

It has an annoying way of counting how many drinks I've had when we go out.

The "mute" button is apparently disabled.

For some reason, my prototype also seems to run on money. I was hoping for a solar powered version.
