That is kinda cool... I like the Last Person To Post To This Topic feature that I see on some boards.

Yah, I've seen that, but I don't think it's available with this version of the board, I would need to upgrade to 5.47, which is going to be a PAIN, I'll need to recreate all of the hacks I've done here already, yuck. I will upgrade before I lose my chance to do so, but I doubt I'll make it a priority just for this one feature. It's on my list, though!

The "Last Person To Post" is a simple little hack, actually. I did it on the gurus network site, and I've got it on the new 5.47c version I'm hacking for gurus network. It's kinda nice. The one hack I REALLY like is the UBB code buttons. I've done that on 5.47c - VERY cool. Full formatting for your messages.

Yea, that would deffinatly be cool. Also, what about sending messages to each other? I've seen that before. I think a cool feature would be "Sexiest Online Now" when Im online my picture would naturally be up and when Im not someone elses ...

Yeah, I've wondered why forums don't have a feature that you can send a message to someone, the server will store the message, and the next time that person loads *any* forum-related page (a thread, a reply, a thread list, etc) the messages that have been sent to them appear at the top of the page, with an option to reply to it. That'd be cool. Sorta like instant messenging. YaBB has a feature that's almost like this, actually.

That sounds like what Napster has... while surfing you can send a message to someone and talk.

However, most of us do that now on icq ~shrug~

Hmm, if private messaging ever gets added to the Asylum, there should also be an option so that we can decide if we want to accept or not private messages.

vog, if we want your input we'll ask you for it. Did you see anyone directly say "vog, what do you think?" No, you didn't. Anymore outbursts like this and I'm taken away your pills.

Besides the added coolness factor, do any of these new hacks serve a purpose or is it just for the coolness?

well, jestah - say you had just submitted a topic in a forum, and you came back and saw that there was one reply.
if you saw that the reply was from vogonpet, then OBVIOUSLY, you will not even bother opening the thread, thus saving valuable seconds of your meaningless life.

I don't think a private message is needed on a forum.... I do think something listing the last person to post would be nice but not a necessity. Just so my earlier post didn't make it sound like I was wanting one

I get enough emails and ICQ's to keep me busy....I don't think another yak'er is what I need

The convenience of the forum-based instant messaging is that you don't need a separate window open to chat in, whether for ICQ, AIM, or a Java chat. Of course, one should be allowed to specify whether or not they want to be allowed to be interrupted with the messages. But, you're right, it's definitely not necessary. Just cool. =)

(Hmm... I think I've been spelling "messaging" like "messenging" for years now, and just now realized it...)

Actually, we could always follow the Microsoft "All in one" strategy, if we add enough features we won't need any other program, at all! (OK; maybe we'll still need photoshop, at least until we can craft a Java applet to insert it into the forum!) Hmm, lessee, we need a full-function word processor, right? May as well make it into an HTML editór as well, Mr. Max, wanna get to work on that? What else should be worked into this thing? I could use a calendar and alarm clock combo, and I'm already at work on the telephone answering machine as we speak! Volunteers?

(I'll see about that "last to post" hack, that sounds easy, and actually of some minor use! I wouldn't mind a "last to register" along with that, I'll see. I was working all weekend, turning my cheesy /store/ directory into a full-blown javascript store, that on it's final step takes all the info you've created along the way and re-creates a form that CafePress would expect to see! So, I been busy.)

Well, not all boards have security problems and CGI can't be hacked very easily if it is set-up correctly (i.e. if permissions are set-up correctly, if suEXEC is used to wrap CGI execution, if you correctly filter form input, etc...)

What link is bogus?

um.. is it just me.. or was Doc being sarcastic....

because (please dont' lynch me) a java applet that runs photoshop would be pretty neat... for when I am at a friend's house and I have an idea... it could email the PSD to myself... or post it somewhere for the betterment of everybody...

OK, check out this one site I used to work on, still consult with the owners from time to time. The site is http://www.Runaware.com/ and what they do is software evaluation over the internet, using the tarantella app from SCOC to allow you to run a windows app from their servers in a java app on your browser. Cool stuff, if buggy from time to time. (I'm going to call Pelle and bitch about the regista´ration process, way broke, grr!)

aaah the ubb hacks! well better know what you are doing if you're adding hacks, cause you can totally screw up your ubb-board. i had set up an ubb-board up too, somewhere in the past and i added quite some hacks too, but in the end i screwed up I couldn't edit messages again. If you want to hack something, always make backups... from every new hack you added. I made that mistake, i backed up over the old backup when everything seemed to be ok.

I can suggest the topicview hack, dunno what it is exactly called. But you can see how many times each topic has been viewed. That hack is used on my clansite's ubb board too --> http://www.clan21.cjb.net
with quite some other hacks, that we don't even use Just added for the beaty of it
You can extend the posting message part, so you can insert colored text, bigger text or even post a flashmovie, without using html. An example of this is found on my clansite too.

About the version of the Asylum, LOTS of hacks were made for this version, so it won't be any trouble to find some hacks you can use, Doc.
