Tough one, where do you draw the line and say "this is commercial" and "this is not"? I sell t-shirts (not many, but I do!), is my site commercial? Phong has a link on his site called "send me money" and he also has banners, is he commercial? MediaMetrix.com has a nice list of sites ranked by traffic, the major portals you'd expect are all there in the top ten. We need to define what kind of sites we're looking for, then we could make a stab at seeing who has the most traffic. I do about 120,000 UMS (Unique Monthly Visitors), from what I've heard Phong does maybe 2-3 times that, sevral others are in this category and traffic range. Scott Balay over at InfiniteFish used to get this kind of traffic, but now he's sold to some place called "EyeWire". Humor sites are probably big traffic inducers, as are things like urbanlegends.com and others like them. Chances are the top 10 most trafficed non-commercial websites are places we don't all go to that often, we're not really that average, after all! |

I never think there would be a site which provides links to non-commercial sites. Maybe there is, at least tens of them, but I think it would be better if you check the link page of the non-com site that you like. i.e I go to the gurusnetwork.com "links that we like" page and click a site, go to the site link page and click another one, like a chain reaction. Finally, I have 8- 10 browser opened in my window. 1 or 2 browser never satisfy me..I need more.. |

Funny you should ask Doc, I'm not really sure how to explain it. It started, like most things in my life, as bordom, but now Im actually intreged by it. When I say non-commercial I mean a site whos general purpose is not to make money. I doubt sites like yours and Phongs are driven to actually make money, although I'm sure you get some here and there. Sites such as Yahoo.com and Hotbot.com are maintained for the simple reason of making money. Corporate sites like microsoft.com and apple.com are driven to help support customers and increase profits. |
