Preserved Topic: The Doc's Msg Board Software

Hey People-

I'm putting together a site and was considering options for a msg board system.
Infopop seems kind of pricey, but it seems to be the standard... Does anyone
have any suggestions, etc? BTW - I'm REEEL cheap :-)

It might be best if I host it off-site, 'cause otherwise I gottta pay extra for
CGI scripting priviledges... see what I mean by cheap?

Try Yet Another Bulletin Board (YaBB). I thin it has some similarity with this one. But if you want it to be hosted off- site, I suggest that you use ezboard . Btw, both are free...

Yah, ezboard is nice for the free options, one of the nice things is the linked nature of the boards. Once a user logs into anyof the ezboard boards, they're also logged into yours, and vice versa. I started this board there, but couldn't cope with the ads myself. Never tried YaBB but I've seen the functionality, it's pretty similar to what you see here. There's been a few PHP boards floating around that look good, anyone have some names?

I have come across a, *ahem* less than legitimate copy of UBB. But its not the greatest version, and you can have it if you like, but only for demonstration pursoses , and remember kiddies, you must delete any software you dont own within 24 hours.

Doc, if you feel this is inapropriate, then feel free to dispose of it

I am using an ASP-based system called snitz on a page of mine. I have no idea how it compare in performance to the CGI based ones, but I think it is working quite well. It's free and easy to set up, and has all sorts of features similiar to this board.

YaBB seems to work really nice. I've set one up and I have some friends who use it. For my purpose it works just fine. If you want to spend the extra money on the UBB it could be well worth it also. EZBoard is also nice.

Qlmpnr, I don't feel like deleting your post but as everyone knows WAREZ is a no no and really shouldnt be broadcasted here. If you MUST, kindly do it in e-mail from now on. Also I have a serious question. Who was it that actually started the myth that you could use illegal software for up to 24 hours? Is that sort of like you can steal a car but only for 24 hours? When I was a bit younger I used to see that on friends websites who dealt with WAREZ. They all had the "Please delete within 24 hours, they are only for educational purposes only" warning. Whats the sense in this?
