for me:

this magnificent Asylum and all its inmates. seriously.

plus:

1-Hokusai(japanese,18thC)-sketch books

2-J.M.W.Turner(eng.,18thC)-venice sketch books

3-movie trailer advtg the Lord of the Rings

4-movie trailer that precedes announcements in the United Artists movie theaters...it goes before the messages: stop talking, etc.

5-any artist who pours endless amounts of Time, Craft, Composition, and Love into his work.

6-a beautiful woman....this is very rare and it does not include Jenifer Lopez, or any of the others currently in fashion, nor playboy bunnies, nor marilyn monroe, nor a host of others that seem to be everyone's favor at the moment...

7-mozart-don giovanni

8-beethoven's 3rd and 4th piano concerto.

9-ballet

10-i prefer process to performance so i would much prefer to see an artist, dancer, musician practice vs. a performance.

OK, I can do this.

Robert Heinlein & Philip K. Dick, Winnie the Pooh & Alice in Wonderland, Robert Crumb & Matt Howarth, Antique Books & Trash in the Street (literally), Bjork and Tori Amos and Lorena McKinnet, Flea Markets and Antique Stores, Independent Hip-Hop Magazines (yay!), Malin my Love and Matti my Partner.

These are a few of my favorite things. (In no particular order. =)

I am also inspired by ballet - and a specific woman... my wife who has many years of ballet training! Family has been a help to my creative output - I don't think I would have gotten together enough to land such a great job without a family. The intense responsibility at times hinders, but it's worth it.

Other inspirations and/or enhancers:

1. Music - mainly electronic music since it is so in tune with the tool of the trade that I use. Aphex Twin, Bjork, Amon Tobin, Banco De Gaia, Higher Intelligence Agency, Infected Mushroom...

2. Well designed event flyers. I collect as many as possible from a variety of events - though mostly musical. Some flyer desingers are very talented and orginial.

3. The Appalachian Mountains. The beauty of this place is an awe to behold. Growing up in Florida and becoming used to sun and even the beach, I am smitten by these hills.

4. Hot coffee/tea.

5. Large, well-designed sculpture. There are so many small-time sculptors that just make great stuff. I'd like to take a class in metal sculpture making.

Great question! I think this is something to be aware of - to refine and understand so you know what helps your creative process.

1-chk out createch.com re this inspiration thread

2-appalachian mts, ben nevis in scotland, the boise cascade in wash, the schwangunks in ny, etc= Yes

3-i like your great new sig

4-i was a metal sculptor for my mfa prior to going to royal academy in london.

6-ballet-!!!

--definitely kicks butt and Rules!
--practicing ballarinas destroy me...rodin and degas picked up on this as well
(degas never was able to convey the lines in his charcoals or sculptures..)
--Giselle is Absolutely Awesome. while dating my wife for several yrs. i took her to it. she really cried with it....definitely had to marry her..
--ballet is line is sculpture=kicks ass.
--ballarinas for their disciplin and training and years of perseverance and respect for classic aesthetics should be paid BIG MONEY(as well as worshipped.)
--the practice sessions where a turn of the head, movement of hand, arm, or leg KILLS ME!

and on i go...

what has your wife danced in? what companies does she like? ugh..you have it all.

i obviously have it bad.

What inspires me? Well...um...just have yourself a look around you. What do you see? What else is there that you cannot see? What is interesting but is missed by the less observant?
So I guess I'm trying to say, pizza, chips, and a can of Coke. Oh, and Muskoka! Cottage country rules!

Boudga,

yes. those artists are seldom mentioned but..............did anyone every think of starting a Thread on: Drugs I Know and Love.

seriously. anyone in the asylum has to have knowledge of drugs.

i would start it but twitch would shut it down and lock me out..

i would however join it with references to: sodium pentathol, paxil, trazadon, percodan, etc....

well dude. you are lucky; very lucky.

some of us are not allowed a choice in the matter. i hear ya.

however. if you had diabetes and had to have insulin what would you stop the insulin?

some of us take what we have to take. of course there is also prozac and zoloft; they throw me through the roof.

percodan, now that is another experience entirely.

Thinking back of what inspire me *a lot*:

The BIble inspire me so many times. My friends around me are encouraging in all sorts of things. When I have no idea at all, I have lots of books to retrieve those info that I need. I copied, tweaked, modified, improvised the work of the people that I like, especially in web design, simply because they inspire me. I surf the internet a lot. When I get lost in my thought, I smoke and get rid of that thing for a while. A lot of people in hte Asylum inspire me to *do this*. I listen to all sorts of musics. I believe that different music stimulates different inspiration.

Thanks for bringging up this discussion, countryboy.
