I did a drawing of my hand today, first time I tried. Tell me what you think. It doesn't quite look the same scanned; the light and dark parts are too accentuated on the scan compared to the real drawing.

I think, I like. Are you really that puffy and shiny though? If so you should cut back on your salt intake.

mine:

it's a contour line drawing. I love this technique and it always comes up with some crazy and pleasing results. It's still one of the best ways I know to teach your brain to get out of the way and let you draw.

threep looks, and smiles.
"nice job!" he comments, looking further...
'let's see', he thinks to himself... 'white, male, right handed, married... one can learn a fair bit from a single hand!'
focusing his attention back on rotren, 3p employs a mystical voice, and informs him:
"ahhhhh... yesssss, it is allll clear now. you have a promising future, in both your job and your lovelife. your life-line is very long also - you shall have every success you desire.
that will be twenty bucks thanks."

That`s really good rotren. Only suggestion I have is to lower the hilights a tad, and darken the edges (and around the crease lines ) some to give it more depth. (and quit biting your nails )

Aside from the manicure, looks a little like somebody already did a hammer job on a couple of those fingers, JK.( hehe ) Blind contours are hard to do. That`s a good one. My brain is always in the way.

If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done ?

rotren your fingers look a little short, but the thumb looks good. nice shading. my hands dont shine so bright

jkm -your hand's a little 'squigle ly' i think it could look a lot better if you shaded it a little and made the fingers longer.

I'm no artist, but I think your hand sketch looks great rotren.

As for your's JK, is that really your hand, or Quasimoto's.

Yes, I think your hand drawing looks really good!

If you are going for realistic you might benefit from less sharp lines, especially around the outer edges. That is especially true for the upper/left side, since it feels that is more the directly of the light source. With a dark background and some more highlight you can get a nice constrast edge there without a line. As for the bottom side you can just darken it, like Bob suggested, making it more of a gradient towards the edge of the hand, instead of a sharp line. The lightin on the thumb seems a bit off too. But I really like the palm!
But maybe you are not going for a realistic look, but more of a like drawing, in which case you can ignore all what I have said <g>

I made a drawing of my hand a long time ago also... here it is:

I really think I could do better if I tried it nowadays though... I was foolish enough to make a different dark pencil drawing on the opposite page in my sketch book, which is why it looks so smugded.
