Yay!!! WTG Phill!

Drop down menu??? you sure it wasn't just the odd thing that IE does trying to assume what your going to be entering into a form? What was in the menu?

Congrats Phil!

You are talking about that drop down menu right under the 'O' in 'yOur' in 'Forget your password', right? I know what you mean. I've seen it before. Nothing to worry about. Or did it move?

Congratulations Phil! So sorry about the hallucinations you've been experiencing, though. :/ I've looked into that dropdown thing, and realy, I don't think there is one of those built into that page. What did it say, messages from [beyond the grave]? I'd have to guess it was an MSIE specific thing, or perhaps a holdover from an old page, browser glitch maybe. That *is* weird. It looks like IE 5.5 is confusing the textbox with a drop down menu. It might have something to do with that password saving feature that IE does (would you like IE to remember this password for you?), maybe...

IE 5.0, nothing happens here.

This isn't so weird. At least not what I see. I don't have to click directly under O in "your," though, just anywhere in the Subject field. (Twice if the focus isn't already in that field.)

It gives me a drop-down menu of the most recent topics I've entered in that field from posting other messages in the forum. It does this every place. Search engines for example; I go to Northern Light and click in the Search field and it gives me a drop-down of the most recent searches I've entered.

Or, if I begin typing in the field, a drop-down appears with any entries beginning with the letters I'm typing. This is an IE feature.

But, if the drop-down is coming up with things you never entered before, then that's weird.

Phil,

After re-reading this post, I realized how serious you were about that drop down behavior. Here are excerpts from IE5.5 documentation regarding AutoComplete:

To enter Web information more easily

The AutoComplete feature saves previous entries you've made for Web addresses, forms, and passwords. Then, when you type information in one of these fields, AutoComplete suggests possible matches. These matches can include folder and program names you type in the Address bar, and search queries, stock quotes, or information for just about any other field you fill in on a Web page.

1. In the Address bar, a field on a Web page, or a box for a username or password, start typing the information. If you've typed a similar entry before, AutoComplete lists possible matches as you type.

2. If a suggestion in the list matches what you want to enter in that field, click the suggestion. If not, continue typing.

Notes

  • The information used for suggested matches is stored on your computer and is encrypted to protect your privacy.
  • Web sites cannot gain access to this information. They can receive only what you explicitly enter in forms.
  • When typing information in Web forms, and typing passwords, you can remove an item from the list of suggestions by clicking the item and then pressing the DELETE key. To delete entries from the Address bar list, click Related Topics below.

To adjust AutoComplete settings

You can tailor the AutoComplete feature to save and suggest only the information you want. You can choose whether to use AutoComplete for Web addresses, forms, and passwords, or not use it all. And you can clear the history for any of these.

1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. Under Personal information, click AutoComplete.
4. Select the check boxes for the AutoComplete options you want to use.

Hm... interesting... Thanks Bugs. Yes, might be the 'auto-fill-out-form' option. I turned all of these options off.

So very, very sorry that I didn't believe you, Phil... But it seemed pretty funny.
