Memory question:

I'm upgrading the memory on my G4 before I go off to college. Anyway, I'm looking at 512MB SDRAM. Do you think it's better to go with the one or two DIMMs? I really don't know too much about it. I would assume that would mean there splitting up the 512MBs into different memory slots. I was thinking many the single DIMM might make it faster. What do some of you think? Also is 512MB enough? Or do some of you think I should splurg and go for the 748MB with 3 DIMMs?

Comments are greatly appreciated.

More is always better, Jestah.

As far as the memory goes, I've heard differing accounts so either configuration would be fine. However, adding one 512 M dimm would leav two open slots for even more memory. So the choice is your

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if either configuration is faster or not?

In theory, using 2 DIMMs will be slightly faster but in reality, you'll never know the difference. Using 1 DIMM compared to 2 is about the same as overclocking you CPU by about 2 to 5 Mhz.

I suggest you get just one DIMM as this may even be cheaper (havent checked my Hardware Prices lately though) and it will provide you with the option of getting more RAM in the future.

Edit: Blurg....
