I have a question about the network I work on. I want to know if it is possible to set up a computer to monitor another set of computers (10 in this case), to log EVERYTHING they do, including programs they run and internet sites they visit, and to be able to show a view of what they are seeing on their screen. This is actually for network security purposes in the library at my school where I work. I need to be able to monitor what my fellow students are doing on the network and internet to make sure that they are not breaking the rules.

FYI: the network is run on Novell installed on Windows NT.

i think you can since other schools do that. they usually do a horrible job at it, but that's because they don't know anything about computers. My teachers needed help saving a file.

I don't know how you could. do this, but if you want to monitor what they are doing on the internet, there is software that will block access to certian sites. If you do this, you should also block proxying sites because they can fool these programs.

Well, you could install a keylogger or other program that records all input. Some even time stamp and show what programs are running. However, you'll also log any passwords the students might input so it's up to your discretion. Do a search on google to pick up more information because I can't think of any sites offhand.

Since you want to monitor it from one computer, you can tell the program where to put the log file, and then load it to your computer.

However, it sounds more as if you want a direct view of what's on each screen. The only way I know how to do that would be to split the monitor cables from each machine to a central switchboard and then have that connected to your computer. We had the same kind of setup except in reverse in our teaching labs. The students could switch between their monitor view and the instructors monitor. It is a bit more difficult for this as you'll need all the cables as well as the switchboard so the event logger might be a better choice pricewise.

Price I don't think is much of a worry, this is for my school, which pulls in millions in renenue each quarter.

So does mine, but for some reason the chairs we use in our computer lab run $700 dollars each! For $700 I'd expect a leather lay-z-boy.
