Preserved Topic: checking page size/load time? (Page 1 of 1)

Is there a site that will tell me how long a page (specifically, mine) will load in different browsers, and at different connection speeds?

I'm also interested in seeing the overall page size---and I really don't want to do it myself (lazy and tired) because (lazy) the page in particular contains a javaScript map with 40 different images, a top header, text, etc...(lazy)

I've had some people tell me load time was unbearably long.

I'm not looking for a review, I know the page is rather simplistic, but that was the point::

Too long to load? What to do, other than re-optimize all the graphics? They're fairly well squeezed now.

register-it! Readiness: Fair (WHAT IS THAT?) It said to "Add meta tags----I HAVE 12!! How many should I have?? 50???

Load time: Fair

Dead Link: Excellent

Spelling: Excellent

HTML Design: Poor (OUCH OUCH OUCH!!)

The site uses several tables---perhaps that's the reason for the "poor" rating? I did it this way purposely to have the map, the graphics, the text next to the map, etc...

threep tries to calm hedda down, and says:
"don't worry, it's not anything DEFINITE, jsut a rough guide.
the html coding rating refers DIRECTLY to the errors listed when you click it. get rid of those, you should get excellent. but the main one you should try to pick up is your actual load time... this can be fun for goal setting and progress indication - i remember when i had to play with an existing site, and knocked their loading time in half! of course, your site is a LOT cleaner than theirs!"

All I'm going to do for now is lose the bottom graphic (it's 25K by itself)...(tonight, that is). Tomorrow, I'll add all the hoopla they have suggested. I can see that the load time is NO GOOD.

But I gotta say that these bozo's own site won't loat the "hitometer" (on a cable modem, to boot, LOL), and they have javaScript errors and I don't.

So, THERE, websitegarage!!!

Lost the bottom image----but saved an optimized version at 50% of size.

Went from 71K to 46K

Altered the top graphic---lost approx 30%

Went from 46K to about 40K

71K to 40K, I'll take that.

I'll upload the changes tomorrow. Thanks for the help!!
