Did anybody see this movie already?
What are the impressions?

Yeah, I saw it yesterday. It is good, very Kubrick-like, which I think was the intention. Maybe it seemed a tad slow at times, but it is definitely above the average Hollywood-crap. The last 3rd is very good. And Jude Law looks so god damn cool as a robot-gigolo!! It also has a very good soundtrack, reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Go see it!

Well, I personally really liked the film but the two people I went with (my gf and her friend) thought it was really boring. So, I figure most people will think it's boring, but a select few will actually see the genius of the film. Also, while definitely a Kubrick film, the story itself definitely feels like Brian Aldiss' work (who wrote the short story the film was based on, "Supertoys last all Summer").

Personally, I thought the story was very engaging and the special effects were adequate without being over the top. I don't know how well it's going to do at the box office, but I thought it was a good flick.

Sadly, most of the movies I like don't do well (Like Bicentennial Man. Great movie, but really bad reviews).

On a side note, I just saw Atlantis and I loved it. Definitely a must see.

I see the topic and I think cool.. this should be interesting.... But nooooo just a bunch of people who atcualy have a life away from their PC who go to the movies!

everybody needs a swamp bear

From the previews I get the impression it's going to be a Blade Runner meets E.T.. Is that even close to what it's like?

Actually, if it's in the style of Kubrick's films... I should really enjoy it.

I was going to go watch it downtown.... but I wasn't in the mood to listen to it in Japanese with no English subtitles..... so I passed on the whole idea.
Maybe I'll get a shot at the English version in the next month or so.

Personally I think they should have ended the movie long before they did. I'm sure anyone who watched it knows where I'm talking about.

Overall the movie was very slow and pointless. Watch it if you must but please spend the buck 50 to rent it from Blockbuster.

I saw it and I thought it was incredible ... but it was also very depressing....

People either like Kubrick's style or hate it - I usually have mixed feelings (yeah I know it was a speilberg pic - technically)

.. I'd say go and see it, but get some prozac first.

K so forgive me if I blather on.

I've followed this film for years. Since I first heard it was in development, which would be 1996. I was very excited about it. Knowing that Kubrick (at the time) would be deirecting a real visual stretch again was very intriguing, and particularly if you read <a href="http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/5.01/ffsupertoys_pr.html" target="_blank">the short story it was based on</a>, you would definitely be scartching your head about what kind of film would result.

In the years that passed, a friend of mine ended up moving from Vancouver to California and began working at Industrial Light and Magic. I'm not naming names and I'm not saying that to impress anybody. But knowing how tight-lipped he had to be about it, the fact that the only info he would divulge was that it was like nothing he'd ever seen or worked on before was really enough to get me very excited about the visual aspects of the film.

And on that count I think it rocks. I think that in terms of visual impact, it's a work of art.

Unfortunately, my problem with this film is that at pretty much exactly the halfway point, it turns from a tense, *very* Kubrick-y suspicious drama about the nature of dealing with a machine that can think and emote, to - basically - "Pinnocchio 2001." Which is absolutely not in the spirit of the short story. This is apparently the wish of Brian Aldiss, the original author, so who the hell am I to argue? But it is the major blocking point to me saying hands down "this is an amazing movie." It could have been, but with this very literal allegory in there, I can't say it.

What I will say is that there are many very ingenious visual moments in A.I. which are well worth the price of admission. The score is also damn fine. So for that I say two thumbs up. But on the more crucial elements of dialogue and overall story, i am unfortunately dissatisfied.

Like anyone cares what I say anyway.

I saw this movie tonight. I have been avoiding reviews and reports on this film until I saw it. I know it needed some work....and should have ended about 20 mins before it did.....but all I can say is I havent cried as much at a movie since I saw Deep Impact. I have a splitting headache now from crying.

OK....thats all I have to say.

All I can say is that Kubrick is very good at his craft although i'm not that familiar with his work and Spielberg is certainly my god. It hasn't come out in Australia yet although it's about to. It's looks bloody wicked and a definite Oscar contender. I'll be definitely seeing it.....along with the premiere of Final Fantasy at these gold class cinemas in a casino in Melbourne with Skaarjj. IT"S THE AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE. But anyway.......go to the official A.I. website and you can have a full-on chat with some robot who acts like bit of a smartarse!
