Yah, I had some fun trackijng down some of my earliest posts. I especially enjoyed some of the discussions I ended up having in "comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html" concerning whether graphics had any place in that forum at all! Hmm, said I, but we *use* html to place our graphics, but the argument is that HTML is all about text, and pretty much only about text. Our piddly concerns with control over the look & feel was actually going contrary to the whole concept of the WWW, heh. Here's the link for one of these discussions, it was a hell of a lot of work getting proper respect for what we do! (David Siegel made his reputation during these times, mainly by making all graphic designers look like idiots and pissing off the programmers, but hey! He sold lots of books, heh.)

I thought that there for a while you and he were going to duke it out I thought it was funny how the topic of the message was "You don't understand graphic designers!" and yet he didn't even get what you were saying at first. hehe...

How sad, I found this note "This is the only article in this thread", hrmph. (I found a place to live fortunately, where I stayed up until I moved out here to Stockholm!) Heh, sometimes the internet delivers ASAP, and sometimes, nobody replies, hah! I miss my old usenet days, I had a lot of fun then, these were the times when we (as web designers) were really fighting for our place on the net, tough times.

I remember having a few frustrating conversations on comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html, myself. Ask a simple question on how to place an image and you got a neverending barrage of "how dare you try to force me to see things your way" flames.

It amazes me how much energy was wasted in that forum by the naysayers arguing that things can't be done instead of figuring out ways to do them.
